Yay!

Finally an anno game set in the future. I have been waiting so long for something like this!
I'm hyped!
http://anno.uk.ubi.com/anno-2070/index.php

Fun fact:
The anno games:
Anno 1602
Anno 1503
Anno 1701
Anno 1404

Ad up the numbers and you will always get the number 9!
Also, 1404+666=2070 but thats just a coincidence methinks.

Now if only other series would take bold leaps like that. I'm looking at you, Total War.

It looked awesome, then I looked it up on Wikipedia and found out that Anno is an RTS series... *sadface*
Its more a city/society/empire building game then it is RTS. Not a lot of units like the real RTS games. Its a nice time waster.

Apparently you will be able to choose between one of two different 'factions' the industrial and the hipp.. ecological.
This will influence your way of building and resource collecting as well as architecture and way of solving problems. (powers)

Also the world you live on seems to react to your presence.
Cut away all the trees and floods will decimate your cities.
Use only solar powerplants and the forests will flourish.

I do wonder what the negative side effects are going to be for choosing eco style, but we will see.

Looks nice, I'll give you that. Personally, though, I'm not really into the RTS or Civ genre. I understand the appeal of them, yes, but I'll share my enthusiasm for a game where NOT playing a gameboy during the game play increases its entertainment value.

But I loved leaving Sim City 4 playing, then going to do something outside only to find out that my city has grown amazingly!

(Or that the reactor has had a meltdown..)

Could be as dumb and boring as sim city societies, or as deep and good as Tropico. Too early to tell.
I hope the game is more than just fancy gfx and a nice premise.

But then you aren't really being rewarded for playing the game, are you? :\

Putting together a puzzle is fun. Going to the beach and building a sandcastle is fun. Using your thousands of dollars worth of college classes in engineering and architecture to make huge sandcastles that reduce your 6-year-old competitors to tears is VERY fun. Buying an app for your iPhone that does all that in your place on a screen and switches the action with a progress bar? Eh.

Everyone has their own ways of having fun. Some like football, others don't.
I enjoyed letting that city slowly grow and only taking action when the advisors told me too.
Keep in mind, I was new to the whole city building sim, later I found the fast forward button and had a bit more fun but I also lost interest faster. :/

Yay! The demo is out!

http://www.gamershell.com/news_128212.html

It takes longer to download then to complete the demo. You get to play the first 2 campaign missions and thats not a lot.
It plays exactly like Anno 1404, but some things seem different. Anyone that was on the beta?
