I've been thinking about it for a while, and the term "Survival Horror" doesn't really strike fear into my heart like it used to. Now we got plenty of weapons and health packs to keep us level headed and not freak out if stuff goes down. I think that a lot of recent games should be sorted into a category called "Action Horror." It's more of a genre for killing scary things in scary environments but you're still well equipped. For example, Doom 3 or FEAR.

If we're discussing games here, then all horror is slowly devolving into this. It may as well just be called horror.

Boot up an original Playstation with Resident Evil 1, and pull out the memory card.

Now, survive. Good luck.

Pfft. Survival horror. Infinity mode in Dead Rising, that seems more survival horror to me. Maybe a Jason game where you are some nobody and Jason is out to get you. Now try to survive. Game ends if you escape or die. No climactic boss battle though. No beating him.

There are none. Horror games are popular, but they just tried to tap too far into the shooter fanbase, and lost their way. I hope the come back, i really do, but theyre more popular now than ever because of it, and i dont see that happening.

And this is true. We dont even need two words in there, every subgenre of horror is now this. No exceptions (to my knowledge).
