I'd love a chance at this. I never paid much attention to the Elder Scrolls series until everyone made such a big deal about Skyrim. I picked that up and had a great time with it; now I want to know more about the world, the lore, and the stories of the previous games I've missed out on. I hear the gameplay is less simplistic in earlier titles too.

Very much so, but Oblivion isn't the best example. It's more complex than Skyrim, but the first two titles had a lot more. Probably too much for their own good, honestly.
