Okay, so Harbinger was using the Collectors to make a Human/Reaper hybrid out of colonist paste. I'm still not too clear on why, though; it seemed to me like there were already plenty of Reapers out there. My best guess is that the hybrid was supposed to replace Sovereign and go fire up the Citadel relay, although it looked like the Reapers were well on their way towards the galaxy already...hmm. Anybody got a clue?

You can never have enough reapers. Well, better explanation is that all of the other reapers are beyond the edge of the galaxy and getting there would take a very long time. So yeah, probably what you thought.

Maybe there just replacing Reapers they lost in previous invasions, to keep there population constant...

Or maybe they choose to design there new brethren after the Galaxy's most dominant or prominent species...

Just my well thought theories...

hmm. Good point. Perhaps it's meant to be symbolic. All the other Reapers look pretty scary, but (based on the last cutscene and Sovreign) just look like giant insects. To have a reaper that looks Human tearing up a Galaxy that is full of humans...

...You could also argue that it's an attempt at subtle irony by the Reapers. It was a Human that saved the galaxy from the reapers, so lets be ironic and have something Human-like destroy the galaxy.

I'm with you, they said they tried to build a Protheian Reaper and failed. This would be like that. They also said that Reapers look like the sentiant beings that they use as fuel or lube or whatever it was they were turning the colonists into, so I guess thats why.

But I don't know really why it had to be humans instead of Turians or Asari. After getting Legion things got a bit confusing to me personally as far as the plot was concerned. Thank goodness for second run throughs!

I figured it had something to do with Mordin's references to humans being more genetically diverse (or whatever) than any other species. Also, a human had just killed a Reaper--that must have been a big deal.

Well, I'm doing my Infiltrator playthrough now. Maybe this will straighten me out.

What it all meant is that after Sovereign was defeated by humans the Reapers learned just how dangerous they are, so they were trying to make a Reaper/Human hybrid that had the best attributes of both species, also, an arguement can be made that since it was called "Reaper Larvae" that is how the reapers reproduce, and it was the beginning of a new form on the Reaper evolutionary chain

I remember another escapist saying that this is what the reapers do when they wipe out the galaxy. They don't kill everyone, but instead harvest everything when they get to a certain point in their evolution. They probably did this to the protheans (thats why the ship's look insectiod.) and the left over ones that wouldn't be enough to make a new reaper were turned into slaves. (hence why the collector homeworld is so small.)

Though it is just a theory. I seem to like it the most than many other ones. Because in my honest opinion, the old 'Humans are awesome, we must make a human/whatever hybrid' is very cliche and (May i say it?) over used. This theory makes it more refreshing change of plot than many others.

EDI says that the Reapers tried to make a Prothean reaper, but they failed. So they instead turned the Protheans into Collectors.

Though I guess this is how the Reapers reproduce. It explains why the Reapers keep harvesting galaxies.

Hmmm.. Dunno how i missed that.
Will certainly catch it on my next playthrough.

But either way, maybe that would explain why there are many races (Human, Krogan, Asari Etc.) in this 'generation' and only the protheans for the previous one. Ether the plague or the harvesting killed the other ones and the clean up left no trace of them (its viable. But can have holes)

My best guess is because Shepard kicked the ever loving crap out of the Reapers first time around (yes there were aliens, but Shepard got them all working together for a common goal) so I think that impressed the Reapers enough to try and capture him to use as the brain for the new Reaper.
