So I just downloaded My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic yesterday to see what all the hubub is about. I started watching it and I'm already 12 episodes into it...and yeah I like it... and I don't mean in an ironic way like some hipster/douchebag. I actually like it! But the thing is I still don't know WHY I like it. I mean it makes me laugh, and it's fairly interesting... but by all rights I should hate it. It's childish, it tries to teach morals, it's incredibly girly, the main characters are based on a toy that I despised when I was a kid, and... yet I still find myself thinking, "I wanna go watch some more My Little Pony"! I even started singing the theme song while I was doing some work today....

Can you guys explain WHY you like this show... cause for the life of me I feel like I'm can't determine WHY "I" like it. So, maybe if other people tell me why they think it's good I might people able to have a eureka moment and pinpoint something you say as why I like it.

Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go watch some more of it... I hope this episode centers around Pinkie Pie....

That's how it happened to most of us and we still can't explain it. Just accept it.

The best explanation available is that its humor and style harken back to the cartoons of the 90's that everyone loved and want to see return. It's simply in a different shell from what you're used to.

And by the way...

Enjoy.

I have seen every episode multiple times, and I still don't get what I like so much about it. I mean the humour is good, the characters are well written, the animation is good, etc, etc, etc, but none of it is that good. I really don't know what it is that makes me enjoying watching it so much, but the fact is that I do enjoy watching it an awful lot, so I will continue to do so.

I don't even know where some of these pictures come from, that's not even a slide in any of the episodes (I don't think)

It's a screencap from the EDIT: second episode. Part two of the pilot.

It's from episode 2. Right before Princess Luna got Elements of Harmony'd.

OT: I know! I was the same. I started watching cynically, but by episode three I couldn't get enough.

EDIT: ninja'd

I don't see why you need to explain why you like something. Is it not enough that you do?

As good a place to post this as any (I'm not propagating another one of these threads)

Where can I get something like

http://shirtbrony.spreadshirt.com/dash-lightnin-aa-A7228733/customize/color/146

In the UK without paying just as much as the shirt's cost just in shipping international?

Without the measure f executive meddling that comes with being a merchandise driven show, chances are it could've been even better. The somewhat cheesy morals at the ends are one thing that I think Hasbro wanted included.

I know how you feel... although i managed to pass it off to my brother as mocking it when i showed him some re-dubbed clips of 'Trot Fuzz' (hilarious btw)
I still smile at the person who said welcome to the herd. Have no idea why...

Try RedBubble, they're usually pretty good shipping wise.

I'm so tempted to buy one of these shirts.

Nice one, but I don't think I have the balls to wear a giant rainbow emblazoned on my chest, I liked the subtler hip-one as a nod, not a giant gay-pride flag.

Can you go to one of those custom T-shirt printing places? Do you live near any?

Most people who watch My Little Pony don't exactly know why they like it. For me, it reminds me of cartoons I watched as a kid like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab. For other people, the reasons are different.

In the end it doesn't matter. If you like it, watch it.

No, but I had a shirt printed from Zazzle.com made as a gift :)awesome: on the front and nine miniature TF2 :awesome: on the back), and the print itself faded off the shirt in a few washes.

There's no real reason you shouldn't like it. The show does a lot of things right, from major things like taking a common plots and telling them in an interesting and well paced manner to small things like researching horse and pony movements to base the cast's animation on.

Basically, if you remove social constructs that try to define what shows different genders and age groups should watch you're left with:

- Well written and well paced stories.

- Varied and Likable cast with unique and definable designs.

- Smooth and Energetic Animation.

and

- A show that doesn't try to cater or dilute itself to one core audience.

Basically speaking, you have Animainiacs. Except it's not trying to get too much crap past the censors.
