So I have borrowed RE5 from a buddy of mine. The only previous resident evil game I have played was 4 which I genuinly enjoyed. I have not gotten deep into the game in fact I have only just gotten through the first bits of the game. My problem arises in the fact I just cannot for the life of me enjoy it. She just kills the atmosphere of the game for me.
I can understand the appeal and I can see where it could work just I cannot enjoy my zombie killing with this annoying chick screaming in my ear or running up and spraying me. She kills any shred of horror for me. Granted RE isnt really a horryfying game but at least it was a pretty interesting survival title if anything.
I mean here I am in RE4 running around a horde behind me desperatly trying to find a quick safe haven to heal and reload. And here I am in RE5 running around looking for a safe haven to heal and reload when little miss annoying runs up and heals me and pushes me back into the fight. I no longer have any fear for these zombies, nor can I focus on them all I see is this chick running around through a crowd of zombies apparently fearless whilst she breaks open crates and picks up crap. She is like a dog running back and forth wagging her tail expecting a treat everytime she does something good.
Coop has its place. Take Rainbow six vegas. Its great fun to get 3 of your friends together and tear into the game on hard tactically hitting every situation or in our case botching it because one of us pulls a leeroy jenkins and gets us all shot. L4D had a great idea too. It worked around the whole coop thing and based the game off of it. RE5 seemed to throw her in as an afterthought.
Okay say you get a friend to play with you. Thats great and fantastic. You still lose that eerie feel. You now feel more then capable of handling every situation. You dont feel hopeless you have another gamer with your prolly just as good or better. Where is the fun to fight a horde of zombies. If you lose you are most likely to feel more frusterated then exhilerated you lasted so long. You just lose so much with the coop in the game.
Okay thank you for letting me vent. This has been bugging me since I first heard about it. And now after so long that I finally got to play it my dislike was warranted.
So in the name of discussion what are games that really utilized coop to there advantage. It really seems to be a reletively new trend so I am curious of older games that did this because we are always looking for a new title where we can fight through the story together.
