An anti-fanbase is a group of people united by there hate of something. which in it self is fine, I hate a lot of things. But what confuses me is that some of these people seem to go out of there way to attack what they hate whenever they can. And will look up more things about it just to find more things to hate on. Not to be confused with reactionary hate. which is hating something because a large group of people like it and they bug you to like it to. In cases like this the hater may have liked it but the constant badgering has ruined it for them.

For example I remember seeing some time ago an anti-fansite for the web comic xkcd. in which they would tear apart every new comic that was posted. This seems odd to me because if I hate something I avoid it. But the people who run this site follow xkcd as fervently as it's fans do.

So what I wonder is why if they hate something so much would they continue to seek it out?

I asked nearly the same question a while ago, related to Mass Effect haters who seem to pop up on every news article related to Bioware or Mass Effect 3 to talk about how much the company has gone down hill, and how terribad Mass Effect 2 was, and how horrible Dragon Age 2 was.

I basically got told to shut up and quit whining. Just a warning.

First off: I thought anti-fanbases are usually referred to as "hatedoms".

Anyway, I usually don't see hatedom's actively seeking out stuff that they hate, but if it presented to them, they won't pull any punches. I also feel that the train of logic of "it is so obviously awful, how can people even like this? I must try to damage this things reputation with nonstop disrespect to convert it's supporters to the right side in this" factors into it as well.

Also, anger feels good.

I stopped by that anti-XKCD blog. Every single comment on the 'reviews' was basically, in the most cases, "Author, please jump off of a pier and die".

Anyway, inb4 anti-MLP.

Music on Youtube. I don't understand it, if you don't like it then just close the video screen, it's not that hard people.

And I guess people do it because they like to start shit on something/somewhere that they don't care what happens (flamewars/backlash)

Because certain people have nothing better to do than to ruthlessly cut down something that other people enjoy. I really don't understand why they do that. But it's just one of those things. They're unavoidable.

Some people enjoy hating things. I understand that.

Hell, I'm one of them for several fandoms.

It's not the hate that I don't understand, but seeking it out after you know you hate it.

i hate seeing the band-bashers on youtube whenever im listening to music. there are people flaming EVERYONE. its just sad to me...not that people dont like certain bands; thats understandable and respectable, just how people bash about it...so sad.

Some do it because it annoys the fans

Making fun of say, TGWTG is amusing because of how rabid his fanbase is to defend whatever he does.

Perhaps some people are just masochist I guess.
