Anti Progress

I have recently noticed myself doing something odd in games, minimising my own progress. For example when playing Dead Space 2 I would stop playing every time something big in terms of the story was happening to avoid the game ending quickly. Personally I am trying to stop myself doing this, but does anyone else do this or something similar?

I have a bad habit of playing for a while, deciding ok thats enough for today and picking up the controller the next day only to realize I have 20 mins left in the game.

Yeah ever since Fallout 3 decided to just end without giving me a post game I've tried to make sure I got all the side quests and stuff out of the way before I end a game.

With games I really enjoy towards the end I just start messing around and doing every optional thing possible rather than beating the game because even if their is post game content I never actually do it.

I've never actually beaten Fable 2, once I got to the final tower I just hung around towns buying things up and killing everything in sight.
