Siren Blood Curse has some 2nd person perspective. You can use whatever special game mechanic to see from the viewpoint of the enemies while controlling the player character. It's probably one of the best (and maybe only) examples of 2nd person gameplay.

Super Mario 64, perhaps? You're seeing things from the point of view of the camera man. He's introduced in the beginning and you can see "yourself" (him) in mirrors. But you're controlling Mario. Well...actually you are controlling the camera man too, though. So maybe not.

That's pretty cool, even if it doesn't qualify as second-person. You control two characters simultaneously.

First Person = From your own point of view.
Second Person = From another character's point of view.
Third Person = Told from an objective outsider's point of view.
Fourth Person = Yahtzee's point of view.

Best example for second person I can think of? Psychonauts! The clairvoyance power literally lets you watch yourself through the eyes of another game character.

2nd person is from the perspective of a non controlled charter that is a charter in the game you interact with. So a floating camera is 3rd person(this includes the cloud cam in mario 64). as you can see this is rather hard to do.

MindJack and i think a few chase sections from Crash did it as well.
In Mario you don't control the camera but you control the Lakitu, I think it counts but only just.

Couldnt you make an argument that Ico is from second person perspective? I mean its not the best example, but theres really not a lot of good examples to draw from.

I would like to introduce you to EXperience 112, the first game that i have ever played that is entirely in the 2nd person

I know that since you have no direct control of the protagonist, you still have methods of giving commands for movements and actions, so i feel it still counts. Its also a fairly decent horror/mystery game, at least imo.

I think prince of Persia (2008) had one level with a 2nd person camera (since it was through the evil gods eyes) but I don?t think you could have a whole game like that.

In Siren -series the big gimmick of the games is that you can see through the eyes of your enemies or other characters. There's a pretty clever mission in Siren 2 (never released in America) where you're playing with a character who has a very poor eyesight, so if you want to see anything beyond near incomprehensible blur you must use the afore mentioned "sight jack" to look around through the eyes of your pet dog.

I could imagine an entire horror game done like that, though it would require a pretty robust command system for the dog.

he is non interactive omnipresent
so he is 3rd person
you're also controlling him so 2nd person is not an option

OT:Jack 2 had a chance level from the perspective of the tank behind you

A second person game would be one in which YOU the character would be viewed through the eyes of an independent follower/Npc/escort.

The character whose eyes you see out of would not be the character whose body you control.

Sounds like a good experimental game idea.

Say, Leon: The Professional: The Game. Where your camera is from the perspective of Natalie Portman but you control Jean Reno.

Her eyes wouldn't always be focused on you so you would have these weird situations where suddenly you'd be out of the camera frame as she looks at the bad guys coming out of the elevator (or something)

----

I do know 2nd person was done in the Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, where your being chased by the nightmare creature and you control the prince while viewing the action through the monsters eyes.

First person = I, me, myself
Third person = He, his, her

Second person = You

When it comes to games, first person is supposed to be from the perspective of the main character (looking through the character's eyes), third person is from the perspective of a camera viewing the main character.

Second person.... I don't know how that would work, I suppose maybe "over the shoulder" like Resident Evil 4, could be considered second person.
Hmm about the closest i could think of would be bastion, just because of the way its narrated, the kid grabs his hammer etc...

2nd person perspective is horrible and should never be used under any circumstances, ever.

Do you mean in terms of camera viewpoints?

Because I don't think a '2nd person camera' is actually possible.
I'm pretty sure second person would essentially playing a game through the eyes of a second character. Besides the occasional monster-chase scene, i don't think there is much going for playing a game through another character's eyes

Sorry about the text wall

Basically in terms of camera work then yes there are a rare few examples of seeing the character or characters act through another persons eyes/a camera as you play different from 3rd person because it is attached to an object / person that is observing rather than a disembodies entity. the closest you can get to a 2nd person game is probably one like Black and White if you play purely through your creature, you still play as "God" as in a character but leave the running and direction attacking and such to your creature as while you can influence him he still has free will and can at times just ignore you. Basicly a second person game is one where you can interact with the character by saying stuff like "you should do this" or "you shouldn't do this" but the character ultimately decides what it will do for its self for instance lets say that instead of being the hero in a game you were the sidekick you could suggest to sneak in to the bosses secret base but the hero could decide to break down the front door instead a game like this is possible.

Example below

Lets take a fantasy setting as an example the Hero is the only one who can kill Big Bad but your controlling Tim Farmboy when you two are both young you were kind of a dick to him so when you grow up he ignores you you don't recurrent anyone else and the world is conquered by big bad. Or it could be that you din't talk to him much and instead while walking along the road with him to big bad's mega fortress you spot a cabin in the woods and suggest we stop there for the night in scenario 1 the hero ignores you but here the hero hears you and decides to march up to the cabin and break down the front door you tell him not to but your not that good of a friend so he ignores you he breaks down the door and inside finds Ellen Magic-Face who shouts at the hero and attacks accidentally setting fire to her house then demands the hero buy's her another one the hero feeling partly responsible agrees and she joins his party until he pays back he debt so miss Magic-Face joins the party and you get a second character that could influence the hero. But you get the idea. If any one wants to make this game let me know cause I have a lot more ideas that I have literally just come up with[/spoiler]
