I sort of read a lot and I was wondering if there are any witty or well-written reviews of books. They can be blogs or vlogs, but I was looking for like an independent sort of critic. Any escapist know a good one?

I don't know much about book critics, but from what little I've seen I've noticed they tend to mostly review the "big" releases, from authors that already have made a name for themselves. But seeing as how a lot more books are made every year than movies or video games, it makes sense that they would have to limit their scope a bit.

If you are looking for a source of book recommendations, I suggest looking for an online book club or forum for enthusiasts. Something like The Escapist, only for books. Those people will know of a broader range of books, can give you more specific recommendations, and will tell you about the book as a reader rather than as a critic. Plus you can talk to them directly, getting the information you want rather than what the critic spoon-feeds you.

I find it useful to pick a genre (or find out the genre of a book you're interested in), then check out a forum specializing in that genre and seeing what they think

Er, my sister? I don't read any other book blogs sorry. She can be pretty funny but then I'm biased I guess. She mostly reads mystery and crime books, she's not a gamer and the only high fantasy she likes is Tolkien. She also has better taste in literature than I do =P
