That got me recollecting a game from the early days of Xbox 360 called Kingdom Under Fire. Was lots of fun, especially with co-op, but never quite took off.
It seems that games that do crowd combat well end up more of a top down or isometric viewpoint, ie. Diablo. Most of the games that go into 3rd person mode or 1st person mode never quite break out into becoming successful series, ie. Serious Sam, Dynasty Warriors. Not saying these games didn't perform well, just that they seem to be missing something that make them top sellers.
