So... for a few weeks or so i have ben trying to find a good solid final fantasy clone, no luck... SO guess what i need you guys here at the Escapist forum to do for me?

what i have found so far is very litle because without diving in to the ocean of JRPG-indie games there is very little to look at. I already own the last remnant and while its a good game its no "final fantasy", im also aware of some indie games named "Cuthulu saves the world" but i dont know... they dont appeal to me, you might convince me otherwise. I also know about the disgaea games but the are more to the tactical side of the RPG platue and dont realy appeal to me either.

My favorites are ff1, because you could form your party however you wanted, ff2 because you could form your characters to what ever you wanted, ff4 because of the jobsystem(havent played ff3 much...) and ff6 for the best F**CKING STORY EVER!... sorry for the caps...

SO, any tips what i should look for?

indeed i will try these out, BUT i wonder:

Is dragon quest a game where you can customice your character?

Is wild arms more then just flashy combos?

Is persona keeping a good pace? its seems like a game that gets "booged down" easly...

I am amazed but seriously if you think The Last Remnant is good then you are going to be absolutely spoiled pick any RPG any at all and you have very high odds of it being a better game but you also liked FF2? which I would say is by far the worst FF ever made, if you liked being able to build up your characters however you want there are much better FF games like V,VII,VIII,X,XII, or even III.

Also I am pretty sure FFIV didnt have a job system you were locked in I.E Black Knight/Paladin, Dragoon, White Mage/ Archer etc for the entire game apart from the one story class change ofc.

Im not sure what you mean by a FF clone either as they are different so ill just assume you want a good JRPG in which case pick up Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story right away if you want turn based the previous suggestions of Dragon Quest VIII, Persona 3 and especially Persona 4 are also great well DQ is more good than great but whatever.

Lots of people tend to recommend Chrono Trigger which I found ok while the Golden Sun games are worth a look well the first one is as I havent finished the second and never bought any others.

If you just want real old school turn based just play the Dragon Quest series its hardly evolved at all.

Oh and sorry if it seems I am lambasting you on your choice of games that you enjoy I am just incredibly surprised that someone can actually think The Last Remnant and FF2 are good in any way shape or form saying they were `meh` would be incredibly generous (personally they are the 2 worst RPGS I have played JRPG or not).

Oh sorry i meant FF5 ^^* and i dont realy think the last remnant is a bad game, its just made at the wrong time, you know they tried to modernise it and added alot of unnessesary stuff. (i havent played though it yet so i might be talking out of my ass)

but xenoblades chronicles and the last story you say? ill look into those and i must say that i read about xenoblades chronicles and how they finaly got a port to europe so i acualy look forward to that and i have high expectations ;)

Edit: i can also say i have played through ff 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 10-2 and a bit of ff12

Lol me too one of my gaming ambitions was to finish every main offline FF so have done FFI - XIII excluding XI (obv) inc X-2 but havent got XIII-2 yet (but I will eventually) anyway have +5 points. My top 4 would be FFVII,VI,X and IV in that order which I think would vastly differ from yours.

Just a word of warning though Xenoblade and Last Story do shake up the genre quite a bit I dont want to toot their horn too loudly and give you unreasonable expectation but I think if you go in with an open mind you will be impressed and get a lot of enjoyment from them.

You may want to try DQIX for the DS I think you would really like that its basically FFV but with more customisation and depth, in many ways its quite impressive really and if you really like it there certainly is not a shortage of things to do it didnt hook me as I was done after about 60 hours but its not a bad game by a long way.

I got to the second disc on The Last Remnant and just couldnt take it anymore I dont give up on many RPGS I have payed good money for but the game just sapped my will to live. If you manage to complete it ill give you an internet pat on the back.

Sorry one last suggestion is Lost Odyssey its more a traditional JRPG but is enjoyable and should be able to be picked up quite cheaply nowadays incidentally its by the same company that made (the superior) The Last Story. They also made Blue Dragon which is.... not very good.

How about star ocean ? Not really customisable , but tons of characters to choose from that all have different abilities . On that same note suikoden . 108 character where more than half are playable no make your party as diverse as you want . If you like that idea how about radiata stories? A lot of characters to choose from .

The special thing about the Mardek series is that it has long gameplay, good story, and good controls.

It's a story driven game that is heavily influenced by the 16 bit Final Fantasy games. It makes fun of the genre while staying serious with its plot.

The second chapter takes about 12 hours to finish, and the third chapter can take up to 60 hours to finish.
