Eh maybe this is dumb but fuck it. My job situation being what it is, I'm not getting quite the amount of human contact I would like.

Is there any games, either on the PC or otherwise that are pretty heavy on socializing? I don't know, maybe a MMORPG or something?

Hearthstone players seem, on average atleast, rather friendly. I get a friend request from someone I battled about once a week. They're like 'Hey, gg, [insert play here] was lucky/awesome/clever. Rematch?' Sometimes we talk about strategy a bit. I also play with people I know from forums and RL friends.

Any game where you play against others usually in a non heavy competitive way and that offers an easy way to chat in as many ways as possible would be your best bet. So yeah pretty much any MMO would be good in theory as without doing any socialising they would be pretty naff in most if not all cases. Or maybe I should say without other players as I have played some without doing much socialising but then I am not really that social of a person.

Not sure about heavy on socialising I mean there are games where you have to play with or against people but its really up to each individual how much they actually want to talk. Most games that have heavy socialising tend to be party games with people you know so sort of an extension of your usual socialisation with them in the first place which in your case does not seem to be what you are looking for.

From my own experiences FFXIV has been where I have done a lot of socialising and met some people I keep in touch with online which hardly ever happens so maybe try that. Other games I tend to socialise in a bit is fighters but honestly that is even more hit and miss since its competitive and some people are poor losers/winners/people you can meet some pretty toxic players as well especially in a popular franchise at the start of its run or if the game has a low barrier to entry money wise i.e it can be got in some capacity for free.

Don't listen to this gentleman. Hearthstone players are passive aggressive monsters, and listening to Anduin say "I'm sorry" after he entombs your 8 drop will drive you to murder.

I'd say MMOs, but many have been properly streamlined to greatly reduce if not outright eliminate the need for heavy social interaction. MOBAs are popular but you'll generally just want to kill your teammates.

It's a tough one.

Depending on how desperate you are online DnD might work for you. Sometime you have people just recruiting random people for there online session on forum board, D20 might be a good place to start looking.

Otherwise EvE online might be worth looking into, its probably the most social of somewhat popular mmo.

Those are actually the people who seem to be most eager to befriend other people, haha. From my experience, longtime players know how much luck can mean in a game of Hearthstone, and if you make a good effort despite having the odds stacked against you, they might contact you. Besides, you can mute the other player if you don't want to hear them, and you can't use the chat function anyway unless you're mutual friends.

My experience may be skewed, though, as I started playing during the beta. Still, lots of people play this game and you can play with semi-strangers instead of total strangers if you add forumers to your friend list.

BTW The real assholes are the people who stretch their turns as long as possible. Screw them.

Agreed. Those motherfuckers are the living worst.

You'd like me. I sprint through my turns, and frequently make reckless misplays because of it.

I don't socialize much in video games, but I do socialize a lot over board games.

So I'd look for a meetup group or something for board games and try that.

Or if you can get people to come over try Until Dawn

I've had some positive experiences from Elder Scrolls Online. It's probably one of the few times I've really engaged with other players outside my main network of gaming friends for quite a few years. A good trading guild is probably a good starting point, as well as occasional situations you'll run into with players that you just happen to cross paths with.

Plus I find the game's design pretty nice (having never been able to get myself into most mmo's due to their terrible WoW-clone combat design).

Oh, and the game doesn't really have multiple worlds/servers, there's just U.S./Canada and Europe iirc, so that maximizes your options a bit more.

If you're looking to make friends with strangers, I'd suggest Planetside 2

It's a shooter MMO. Think Battlefield on steroids, but with medicore graphics.

Find an outfit (ie clan). I've been in several and they've all been full of friendly, chatty types. Granted, those were all based on the Australian server, but I see no reason for it to be different on the US/EU servers.

Look for outfits who have a Teamspeak server and require members to use. Those are generally the ones who value communication.

The downside is that the game has been out for a long while and much of the remaining population are veterans. So gameplay-wise you'll be jumping into the deep end. Which is full of sharks.

If you want to play with existing friends then something co-op is always a good bet. Left 4 Dead is still the gold standard in that area, although the games are rather old. There's also that Vermintide game, which is basically L4D with a new coat of paint.

Oh, and if you like RPGs with turn-based combat and have a friend with similar tastes then get yourself a capy of Divinity: Original Sin. It's co-op is very robust and the game has that slightly emergent and chaotic nature that makes for laughs aplenty.

Do games that foster communities rather than depend on one count? Because there's nothing that triggers "Yo dude, check this out!" moments like a Bethesda RPG. Even years down the line, you'll find people willing to geek out over minutia from everything between Daggerfall and Fallout 4.

Step 1: Get Table Top Simulator.
Step 2: Get the free Secret Hitler game mod.
Step 3: Wallow in the lies and betrayal of an expertly crafted purely social game. :3

Final fantasy 14 is a pretty solide mmo with some of the friendliest people i have ever met. If you are a fan of final fantasy or jrpgs in general, i highly recommend it .

Pokemon has prided itself on its use of socialization since its conception and only gotten better at it with age.
Team Fortress 2 might be my biggest social games with all the folks I have met through it.
Fighting games can be that or just the opposite. Its tough to teach newer players and tougher to teach then the importance of learning from losses, but fighting game tournaments are one of the few things that make a massive introvert like me happy to get out and meet new people. Again speaking as an introvert I have always been fond of arcades and many fighting game tournaments are like an arcade, even the ones without actual cabinets combined with a convention.

I got three suggestions for you ordered by ease and accessibility:
1. Head over to pokemonshowdown.com and start playing and chatting there.
2. Hit up a subreddit for Dungeons and Dragons, Exalted, World of Darkness or whatever tabletop game you fancy and see if anyone is looking for people for a skype group or something
3. If you have a 3ds get Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, hop on teamspeak for the MH subreddit and go nuts there.

YU-GI-OH! *ahem* Oh, you mean video games? I don't know... and game with zombies in them? Like Call of Duty: Zombies...

Other than that, any co-op Mario and Rayman games could do just that... especially Mario Party and Rayman Origins/Legends... Also, there's the DDR games and, especially, the Just Dance games if you want drunken socializing... :p

The EVE community is downright evil, but that's sort of the point of the game, and they're fairly welcoming to noobs. If you can get a few friends in the same room, Drawful and Fibbage are good.
