Any good Low-end open world games?

I got thief 2 and Black and white, Minecraft doesnt run on my computer(some opengl crap)
I dont like Deus Ex as, because it quite isnt open world. just a bunch of diffrent ways to complete a mission. I also did some researching and found a game called Outcast, which is another fun Open world game.

I'd have a browse of good old games to see if anything takes your fancy. I was pretty much glued to a playstation during the pentium3 era so beyond that, I'm sorry I can't help.

Hardly true I'd say. The last computer I had that ran purely on DoS used a 486 processor. Systems were being built and sold with processors half the speed of the OP's in the XP era.

That wasn't my point. I can think of at least a dozen great open world DOS games that his computer will run right off the bat, and I'm sure if I thought about it I could come up with even more. Compared to the 8 or so real open world games listed in this thread.

That point I could agree with. Some of my best gaming memories came from DOS even if they weren't open world. Future Shock is, by far, the best game based upon the Terminator property ever made for example.

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magic Obscura. It's a steampunk + magic open world RPG. The combat mechanics are not the best, but the quaint Victorian dialogue is amusing.

This. It's a great exercise in world-building and there's just so much content. It really does support a wide variety of playstyles, too - I played it as an aristocratic elf beauty who went around charming other people into doing her dirty work for her.

if you want an mmo I suggest maplestory or Illutia

fair warning Maplestory has a lot of jerks and illutia is weird and obsecre and rather empty

basic play is free but you can pay for powerups and stuff

Might and Magic 1 through 9 are all on GoG.com, I wouldn't bother with 9, and I think the first 2 are more point and click, though without the click. Either way they're a pretty solid series and require system requirements roughly fulfilled by a tub of neapolitan ice cream. They're not exactly open world. Instead they're pretty big regions connected by a fast travel system, though that's really just so they can be quite varied locations without having to go through transitions between forest and desert, ya know. Might and Magic 7 is probably my favourite RPG ever.

It was a good game, it just seemed to have some sort of fetish for bugging out on me. Plus, I loved the whole surroundy screen thingy, I know it's just a matter of personal taste but it didn't feel like a M&M game without it.

Just started playing the blackhand edition on wii, its awesome.

If you like rpgs, dont mind it being online, and can stand the "click and wait" style gameplay that it common in mmorgs, ragnarok online now has free servers. RO was my first MMO, and while we dont see eye to eye anymore, i still love the hell out of it. Theres tons of class options, so much stuff to do that the world will probably end before you finish it all, and its locations are varied enough that simply making an exploration character is a viable option... though youll need to brush up your survival skills to make it through some places... or just hire some players to escort you.

or Deus EX the conspiracy- massively recommend. IMO best game ever made.

Yeah, Deus EX ("The Conspiracy" is the name of the PS2 port, so don't buy that for your PC ha ha) is the best game I've ever played, but it's not remotely open world. It does have big levels though, so it might be worth a shot.

Anyway, just thought of another: TES: Daggerfall. You cant get more open than a map twice the size of Britain.

You should play Might and Magic 6, the Mandate of Heaven.

Fantastic open world RPG.

Entomorph: Plague of the Darkfall is a fairly great game too.

Terraria is a newer game, but I have no idea how it will run on a PIII computer, it's 2D and very much like minecraft, only better.

Diablo 2 maybe? It's kind of open worldish with its waypoints.

Knights of the Old Republic runs on my 1.6ghz netbook decently. It's not quite open-world, but it has a brilliant story.
