Any good prog-metal bands out there?

I know about Tyr, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Therion, and Vanden Plas,
But I want to know about some you've heard of.

Funny, I'm listening to this as I type this:

Also, have a few others that I'm aware you'll most likely have heard of, but I feel they're very much worth mentioning just in case you haven't and can dig up some more obscure stuff too:

I'll leave some of the more common bands to others, and simply suggest Vangough.

EDIT: Will Prog-rock suffice? Because if so, Closure in Moscow is about to become your favorite band.

I am quite partial to Mastodon myself - try their album Crack the Skye for a good proggy concept album.

I love progressive metal. Opeth, Wolverine, Amorphis, Mastodon, Talanas, Arch/Matheos, Ayreon, Devin Townsend and a little-known dude called Pete Peterson. Check him out:

I'm gonna throw Porcupine Tree in here too. They're not technically metal, but they have metal influences in their music, especially of recent.

Here's one that not a lot of people know about: White Arms of Athena

Absolutely phenomenal. I like them far better than any other band out there right now, really.

Im gonna second the mastodon, Crack the Skye is amazing, but there's prog elements on the other albums too.

That song is mind blowingly epic.

I saw them live where they played it in full, I wish it had lasted forever.

I've got plenty more, but this post would be extremely bloated with spoiler tags.

Everyone else said pretty much what I was gonna say. Try Animations, though. Great band that not too many people know about.

I really dig Blind Guardian, but they're kinda more, you know, power and speed metal.

Yeah, they have their prog moments(that song being the best example), but I would agree. Still a good band to spread the word about. :p
