So a few days ago I received my first acoustic electric guitar and I love it. (Seriously I can't put this thing down, in fact I'm writing this with it in my lap.) I learned Johnny Cash's "Hurt" in a few hours and now I need a few more good, easy to learn, acoustic songs. If you have any recommendations please let me know I would love to hear them.

Is Johnny Cash's version any different from the Nine Inch Nails version on guitar? Just curious.

Anyway, if you could describe your tastes, I might be able to give you some recommendations.

There are some suggestions for you. The first one might be a bit under your skill level, but the others are probably up to par.

Eric Clapton's Unplugged version of "Layla" is usually a track I recommend to beginners.

And the Beatles track "Day Tripper."

Also "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is sorta fun. It was the first song I ever figured out on a six-string.

Now why in the hell would you recommend Shinedown's cover of Simple Man over Lynyrd Skynyrd's original? Shame on you.

OP: My suggestion is that you learn the following song. It is incredibly beautiful.

The Man Who Sold The World... the Nirvana version... it's simple and sounds good...<.<
It's tuned a half step down with a bit of distortion and reverb with the chords F, Dm, A, C, and C#...<.<

actually the majority of Nirvana's slower songs sound good on acoustic... like Sappy or About a girl...

or perhaps Sex and Candy... super easy... C5, G, F#, A, D...

or give What I Got a try if you can play the guitar like a motherfuckin' riot...<.<

I'd suggest learning these off.

If you know them you should be able to play the vast majority of acoustic songs.

This. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and say any Nirvana song.

Yep Nirvana songs were pretty much the only songs I played for like my first 2 years of playing guitar... but the Man Who Sold The World is actually a David Bowie cover...<.<

Cash's is in a lower key, and uses a more conventional scale.

I much prefer Cash's version myself.

I'd recommend this:

It doesn't sound great on it's own on guitar, like most chili songs, you need to have a bassist to jam with, but it's really easy, and together sounds awesome.

Oh, and you should totally learn this.
It's dead easy.

What you did there...I see it.

I really like Coheed and Cambria's "Light & the Glass" and let's not forget Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage". Classic, man, classic.

Stranger things have happened by Foo Fighters. Great acoustic piece. It needs two guitars though.
