I wish that I had gotten into mass effect when it came out. now I just feel out of the loop and I don't feel like playing 2 80 hour games to catch up.

Well, they're two really awesome 80 hour games. Seriously, they're well worth the playtime. If you want my opinion (not that I have any reason to think you do), I say you should play them before the third one comes out.

I've played two of the PlayStation 2. The most recent one I believe it was XII. I didn't like them either.

Yeah, that makes no sense. I've given JRPGs a shot and every single one has either put me to sleep or frustrated me. This seems to happen very often when someone on the forums expresses they don't enjoy JRPGs. Someone rushes in and automatically assumes I am being unreasonable and that I have to play more of them. Nope, that's not the case. I just plain don't like them.

You mistake my intention, I'm not defending JRPGs (well I am, but only as an example of whenever a full genre is dismissed because of specific examples, it's a logical fallacy that runs a little like this:

A is in the group X.
B does not like A.
Therefore B does not like the group X.

It's an unsupportable conclusion. JRPGs in this case are the X, though they can be substituted with anything; FPSs, ducks, shades of green etc).

Now then, onto your points.

The examples you've played, you are fully justified in saying you don't like them. The ones you haven't played, not so much. The full genre, not so much. As I've said, you can make an educated guess as to whether or not the games you haven't played will share similarities with those you have, in which case might be the cause of not enjoying them. Then again, in the unplayed examples there might be redeeming values that overwhelm the faults and end up leaving a generally positive viewpoint on a specific game. This is impossible to determine except through experience, and then only for that example, not for the whole genre.

Oh, and you can't say you don't like Chinese food until you eat every dish. Logically, you have to be more specific. You can say that you haven't liked anything you've sampled which can be referred to as Chinese food, but you can't logically draw the conclusion that all Chinese food is not for you from those examples.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable to say that to dismiss a whole genre you must experience the whole genre, in which case you can speak with certainty about all that the genre entails. You can say what you want about specific examples you've experienced, just don't lump things together willy-nilly.

Halo and CoD

CoD I played the first two and kind of enjoyed, and then when I played the others after that I lost interest and even became resentful.
Halo was a massive let down for me, all of my friends bragged about all of the games and then when I played them (both series I tried multi as well) it was just...bland and uninteresting.

WEll i personally could not get into any of the Fable games (just as well i heard 3 was shite). Also i really dont like starcraft. I know for many people starcraft 2 was such a huge thing but i was looking forawrd to a psp game more at the time. Lastly, i havent liked any final fantasy games since 9 was new (except 8 which was bad). for me 10-14 and all the spin offs with the exception of crisis core have all been bad. Lastly, until Modern warfare i have not played any army fps and enjoyed it. Modern warfare 1 had some really good wrighting, but otherwise i dont like games where im involved with the military (call of duty,medal of honor, brothers in arms, ect.) Anyway as for the person who didnt like zelda, its just opinion man. I love zelda personally but i agree that it isnt always the easiest to get into, if for no reason other than the lackluster stories and the repetition.

The total war games seemed to pass me by, I tried a few demos over the years, medival, rome, empire but always found them a little too slow, almost tedious and far too tactical for my tastes... but then my taste in strategy games is the C&C style, spam units till you have more than the other guy and win. I couldnt handle all the thoughts of terain, attack angles, battle strategies, pincer movements etc etc etc. but some people love that, s'what makes us all different.

Being a bit of a Total War fanboy, I must ask, are you referring to just the campaign map or just battles? Or both?

Fine. By that logic then, saying "I am into JRPGs" would be logically unreasonable too, right? Because you cannot judge a genre unless you have played all of it.

And vice versa I cannot say I like Japanese food because I have not eaten every single dish. Nice logic. Make sure you pick up on people with that. There are a few people you have to in this thread alone. Someone mentioned before they don't like "realistic war shooters". Another person said they don't like FPS'. Make sure to remind them they must play every one on the market first.

Next time you hear someone confess their love of hip hop, make sure to remind them that they cannot say that because they have not heard every hip hop artist's music.

Next time you hear someone say they like Italian food, make sure to remind them that they must eat every dish before they can say that.

Please be more sincere. The only reason you are even trying to argue that ridiculously is because you like JRPGs and you don't like hearing someone say they don't. That's why you didn't pick up on the user in this thread saying he doesn't care for FPS or the user expressing his dislike for realistic shooters.

Of course you can dismiss or praise something, provided you've experienced it. You can't dismiss an entire perceived group simply through specific examples you've experienced, you can only dismiss the examples.

oh god trust me its worth it..anyway as I can remeber the first one Isn't even that long if you don't do the "sidequests" (I always found them a bit cut and paste anyway) but you still get a very good experience, I'm doing a third playthrough where I plan to get everything since its amazing how much skipped first time

OT: I acctually really wanted to get into gears of war but since I'm a PC and The only way I can find it is Downlead (not really an option) plus they didn't bother with the seaqul so thats a dead end

Wow. I mean, Seven was probably the last really good one (thought because they could render a 3d sprite instead of a 2d one, they started to go overboard with the weapon size, etc.}. Most everyone I've ever talked to that hated Final Fantasy as a series, didn't even play three games out of it, and those everyone that DID hate it, only played Playstation and onward, nothing before FF7.

No, I'm not into JRPGs. One thing you are forgetting is that genres have similar themes. I love Jazz music because I love the musical structure of it. I don't have to listen to every piece of jazz music to know I enjoy it.

Same thing with JRPGs. Of course they differ. Kingdom Hearts is very different to Final Fantasy - but I dislike both heavily. Why should I be forced to sit through every JRPG on the planet to come to the conclusion that I just don't enjoy them.

I'm sorry, but, I don't believe you. I want to, but I just don't haha. I think the only reason you initiated this argument is because you like JRPGs and you want to defend them. Your post count would be in the millions if you really thought this way, because every time someone says they like or dislike a genre you'd have to call them out.

I'm not angry with you in the slightest. The repetition of "next time..." was to enforce how ludicrous your point is. As I said before, the world doesn't work the way you are arguing here. If every piece of Chinese food I have eaten has disgusted me, then I am allowed to say "I do not like Chinese food". I don't have to delve into a discussion involving abstract logic saying:
