You know that feeling you get when someone makes a really really high sound like rubbing a balloon?

Well lately (and by lately, I mean allways) I've been getting the same feeling, only so many times worse it makes me physically ill when I draw with a marker on paper. Or when someone rubs 2 pieces of cardboard together. Or half a dozen other things.

It's not a major problem but go ahead and try saying to your teacher "oh I'm sorry but drawing hurts my ears I guess I can't do the assignment" without him sending your ass straight to detention.

Bringing this up because I had to write on a blackboard with chalk, and I didn't notice that there was still paper wrapping on the edges, and didn't realise it so after the third time I felt physically ill and nearly fainted.

You'd think I'm fucking exaggerating but I'm not.

And the thing is, all those things that make the voice regularry don't work on me at all.

Anyway *insert title here*

I've never been affected by the squeaky noises that make most people flip out. In fact, I use my immunity to pester friends whenever I have access to two pieces of polystyrene.
I'm not a very good friend...

I do, however, get the same sort of effect from some things scraping along carpet. Doesn't happen much anymore, but occasionally people shuffling their shoes along the carpet doesn't feel right. I assume it's the same sort of awful feeling people get when exposed to previously mentioned squeaky noises.

I think most people have little things like this, although yours seems a bit extreme.

I for one can not stand when people put their chin on my shoulder. I dont know why. I mean, whenever someone rests their head on me from the side, Im fine. But as soon as someone comes up to me from behind and puts his/her head on either side of my face: Instant ultra-shrug. A friend of mine damn near bit his tongue off doing this to me.

I dont know why, I just hate it. Also, good luck getting to terms with your thing, OP.

Captcha: crosessa Oar-y,

The marker on a white board bothers me, too. Don't worry. The only thing is that with me, it makes my jaw lock for some reason - it causes me pain but doesn't make me sick.

I do have this thing, though, where if people tap me between my shoulder blades to get my attention, every muscle in my back locks up for like ten seconds, almost like they go paralyzed for a short period of time.

I think I have the opposite issue, cause if someone lightly touches me in that place I get this massive shiver that feels awesome. That has pretty obvious applications.

OT: I've got a cringe for markers on sugar paper, the textures grating each other makes me seize up. Not as much as forks on a plate though, that makes me completely flip out.

COTTON BALLS WILL BURN IN HELL!

I was the only kid in kindergarten that couldn't bring itself to make Santa's beard.

Scraping noises... ooooh, scraping noises... sets my teeth on edge, and I'll be shivering for a few seconds (like when scraping ice from the walls of a fridge, nails on a blackboard when the chalk snaps etc.). *brrr*

I cringe so much when people rip of sticky tape.

I even cringe thinking about it. I dislike sticky things...

I even just cringed there.

Ugh.

Everyone has stuff like that I think.

I've gradually become more and more annoyed by the sound of people eating - and not loudly, just normal levels of noise that you'd have to take thimble-sized mouthfuls to avoid. It drives me insane.

Mugs scraping together. Makes me think of teeth grinding...

Also, I have a reflex action - unless I concentrate really hard, I can't help but flinch when someone touches my throat. Perhaps my body is afraid of mad stranglers.

I'm actually completely immune to all those squeeky/screetchy noises and things. Even scratching my nails on a chalkboard doesn't feel bad at all (until they snap and bleed o'course). Not sure why it's never bothered me, but must say I'm quite glad!

Also: tickling. You just can't do it to me.

High pitched sounds don't really bother me unless it is constant and it just irritates me.

The sound an unglazed bottom of a coffee mug makes when stacked onto another mug and it slips a bit. That sound I can't stand. It sets me on edge just thinking about it.

Or the thought of dragging something serrated and metal over the tips of my front teeth, the very thought makes me want to pull my teeth out.

I get this whenever I take something out of the freezer, I can't stand the sound of scrapping ice, it's weird since I can't describe how it feels, but it's not a nice feeling I get hearing it.

and OP, my aer is feeling sore. and i'm a Scot.

OT: nothing like that.

the sound of finger nails on chalkboard doesn't do that too me...

the FEELING of finger nails on chalkboard does! (although, admittedly, not to your extent... I get very lightheaded and mildly dizzy)

Another Sound That Very Much Bothers Me: The sound of someone raking cement...

I'd say it's just something wrong with your ears (like a ear drum sensitivity issue, since the problem seems recent), but there is also a syndrome for people being who become sick or violently enraged because of high pitched or obtrusive sounds.

I don't get the shiver, but I get a similar sensation. As a result I absolutely love massages, especially if the girl doing them uses massage oils.

On the opposite end of the scale. The sound of scrunching up cotton wool, the louder the worse. It's like taking steel wool to my nerves. I also sometimes have involuntary convulsions, it's that bad.
