Anyone care to suggest a good co-op game?

Assuming you're talking about PC games, are we talking co-op via online play or local co-op via couch play?

If the former, there's already been some good suggestions in the thread. Portal 2, Torchlight 2, Left 4 Dead 2, etc, etc.

But, if we're talking the latter, here are a few I've really enjoyed recently:
= Lethal League [http://store.steampowered.com/app/261180/]
= Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime [http://store.steampowered.com/app/252110/]
= Mortal Kombat X [http://store.steampowered.com/app/307780/]
= Broforce [http://store.steampowered.com/app/274190/]
= Castle Crashers [http://store.steampowered.com/app/204360/]
= Ibb & Obb [http://store.steampowered.com/app/95400/]
= Monaco [http://store.steampowered.com/app/113020/]
= Rocket League [http://store.steampowered.com/app/252950/]
= Worms Reloaded/Revolutions/Collection [http://store.steampowered.com/sub/38357/]
= Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- [http://store.steampowered.com/app/376300/]
= Gang Beasts [http://store.steampowered.com/app/285900/]

And, while not out until February, Ultimate Chicken Horse [http://store.steampowered.com/app/386940/] looks very promising.

I can vouch for Diablo 3. It's best played as a co-op game imo. Of course i played the console version, but i only played with my Gf and we had tons of fun. It also makes synergising our skills a lot easier
I'll ditto this. I play D3 with my wife and I actually vastly prefer it on console over PC anyway(speaking as a member of the PC master race).

Yeah i played it on Ps3 also. While Diablo 3 is a superior game on PC, It is a superior Co-op game on consoles. Due to couch.

Recently I've found myself hankering for something I can just hop into with a couple of friends and dive right into the action. Any suggestions?

Personally I was considering either taking a look at Killing Floor 2 and/or that RWBY fangame or getting back into Payday 2 (though my thread on the Steam discussion there didn't sound promising in that case.)
Here's the list of Co-op games me and my friends play. Yes some are competetive against other players, but the main thing is that it takes next to no effort to ensure that everyone remains on the same team.

Natural Selection 2 - Competitive Asymmetrical MP Game. Join Marines or Aliens together. One player on the team is the commander, while everyone else takes the fight with a more FPS Shootey or chompey take to 'problem solving.' NOTE: The community is a little weak, but most of the super-awesome players have moved on. I'm also trying not to be biased, as this is hands down my 1st favorite game. 2nd being XCOM.

GTAV - AAA Game by Rockstar. 2-4 players are involved in a lot of co-op shenanigans with Heists, Low-riders, and Standard missions. It's fucking GTA, do I need to say much about it other than your Console-Pleb friends can play with the PC Master race? NOTE: The Cheating situation is so fucking bad, I've needed to inject my own anticheat into my game. Which is an Obvious Violation of the GTA TOS. We play it, but unless the situation is cleaned up, keep to private sessions and out of public freeplay. Or just give the game a wide berth. Normally I wouldn't add this disclaimer, but the developer allows discussion of cheat engines on their own fucking forums. Which means the cheating is here to fucking stay.

Verdun - Competitive Multiplayer. It's WW1, and two teams of four 4-man squads are duking it out in the trenches. You and your friends can create a 4-man team, choose your country, and join a server to ensure you stay together. It can be unforgiving.

Warframe - F2P Co-op. (With PvP Tacked on to the side.) Up to 4 players work together in a F2P Third Person Shooter. Space Ninjas (Tenno) have to board ships or land on planets to solve the problems other factions are causing across the known universe. I played it for like, 3 hours, forgot it for like a month or 15, and am now returning to it and it's fucking weird. Regardless, if you all start at the same time, and work together, I'm sure you can all have a much better time than I am with it. NOTE: Make sure to spend your "Freemium Currency" on Warframe Slots. It's F2P, and Warframe Slots are how they ensure they keep paying customers. This isn't a bad thing.

Killing floor 2 - Co-op Only. Up to 6 players need to survive in one of a very limited number of maps. KF2 is still early access, so more perks and maps are coming, along with new bosses. Players must work together to survive waves of monsters until "The Big Bad" comes around. There is an opportunity to buy better gear between waves, and it seems that KF2 will be utilizing a cosmetic micro-transactions system. NOTE: Early Fuckin' Access.

Vermintide - Co-op Only. In a pseudo midevil setting, a race of creatures called the Skaven were tricked by an evil mage and now believe it's their time to rule the earth. (Hint: They're doing a good fucking job of taking over.) Up to 4 players have to survive and complete objectives against thousands of rat-people with an opportunity to get better equipment between missions, which, are slightly limited at the time. Excellent re-take of L4D's formula if you're tired of going after Zombies.

Space Engineers - Up to 6 players can work together to build space ships, mine, and fight automated Pirate Drones. If you like a survival game in a simplified space, go for it. We still manage to have a blast making cobbled ships, fighters, miners, constructors, and space-stations. Tired of Co-op? There is a two platform scenario. Do VS. NOTE: Fuck me the bugs. I say a max of 6 players because that's the most we've ever had, while still being playable. Early Fuckin' Access. Extremely shoddily built, and intense on powerful Processors!

PayDay 2 - Up to 4 Players work together to complete organized crime as masked Americans. Probably one of the best designed FPS games I've played, and takes a hoard-based look at a L4D formula. Rob banks, knock up stores, disarm a rival gang while the police response is insane, and they bring specialized units like Shields, Tasers, and Bulldozers. NOTE: Fuck me there's a bit of controversy, eh? On top of that, there's a very heavy P2W set of DLC for this. Whoever's the host can buy the mission DLC, and everyone can play the DLC missions off of him.

Insurgency - Hay Guise, it's a Competitive "Modern Shooter." That being said, a large number of players can work together in the Competitive scene against Players, or you can all find a Co-op Server. Insurgency takes a more realistic and slow-paced take on the Genre. Co-op Game modes include Hunt, where you go out against AI insurgents, or my personal favorite, Survival, where waves of security are trying to kill the Insurgent players, who start off armed with a simple hold-out pistol or Bolt-action rifle.

Depth - This is the funky one. 2 Player CO-OP -OR- 4 Player CO-OP -OR- 6 Player Competitive. Two players are Sharks looking to check out their local supermarket, 4 players are Divers plunderin' booty, and the game modes also include a Hide-and-Seek or a "Meglodon Hunt." Where one player is a supermassive shark during snack-time. Make sure you and your friends are in the same TS Channel when playing. Not only are the diver screams hilarious, but hearing your friends scream in abject terror as you carry them out to sea with a toothy hug is goddamn priceless.

NOTE: All of these are on Steam/PC. I don't own any consoles. If you were looking for Console games. Uuuhm. Sorry? :< But there are all good ideas. Steam VOIP can be a little funky sometimes, but we've also got a TS Server.

Rayman Origins/Rayman Legends... albeit stick with just you and a buddy unless you'd rather goof off than actually complete levels...

Other than that, besides the Tales of games, I got nothing... Those two games I mentioned are my go-to co-op gaming experience...

alot of solid suggestions in here, pretty much all of the ones I would suggest have been hammered home, although depending on what system you are looking for (and genre), gears of war is another great co-op I think, the campaign does a good job of being single player and/or co op, so there is that if you enjoy some shooting with a friend.

another one (that was just mentioned) is rocket league, god damn that game is *stupid* fun, I have friends who completely hate sports who are becoming addicted to that game, let alone someone who does like soccer/football, the game has everything you'd need too:

splistscreen (up to 4 players)
bots
private rooms
group play both local and online

I just got through beating Magicia: Wizards of the square table with some friends and had a ball but i think that game's enjoyment is linked to how well you can handle friendly fire. me and my friends laughed when we accidentally killed each other so we enjoyed it but if that drives you mad....well it's that kind of game.

The other multiplayer game I've been enjoying a lot lately is Monster hunter 4U which had been on sale I'm not sure if it still is. It also allows local and online multiplayer and there is a demo out if you just want to try it.

GTA V is great with friends, especially because they added in heists. (PS3, 360, XbOne, PS4, PC)

Killing Floor and Killing floor 2 are a blast, as well. Much better than Left 4 Dead, IMO. I also hear good things about the new Warhammer Virmintide game. (PC)

Dead Space 3 can be quite fun, with a single friend. (PS3, 360, PC)

Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 are good, too, if you are looking for a loot based ARPG.(D3: PS3, 360, XbOne, PS4, PC) [TL2: PC)

Talking about loot, Borderlands 1,2, and the Pre-sequel are worth looking at. I would personally recommend 2 the most. You can usually get the GotY edition for fairly cheap, these days. (BL1: PS3, 360, PC) (BL2/PS: PS3, 360, XbOne, PS4, PC)

Portal 2 is another game that I would recommend, but it can only be played with one friend. (PS3, 360, PC)

It's not technically co op but I've had a lot of fun getting friends together and playing Until Dawn and just passing the controller around whenever the perspective shifts.

You could also have it where everyone is responsible for one of the characters but a lot of them are interchangeable.
