I mean with this new tool that is required to be connected to every xbone devs are going to implement this new control, and they will probably do it very poorly, if the kinect 2 even works well, I mean it is really just a gimick and they are making it a required feature. and really, if I want to just sit on my couch and play a game I don't feel like having to move around as well. are they really serious about this, what the hell are they all smoking? I know I am a bit late to the party, but seriously WTF.

Edit: almost forgot, who wants to have to yell at their tv in order to play the game, what if I want to talk to my friends at the same time and happen to say a command during conversation?

Yeah I'm expecting a load of poorly implemented bullshit like what happened with the Wii controller and six-axis.

Just annoying crap that's there just so you feel like your getting the most out of the shitty motion controls.

I think you'd get a quicker thread if you asked who DOES expect the thing to work.

My college buddy said that the tech demos for the Kinect 2 made it look awesome and that it worked much better than the Kinect 1. I then had to politely remind him that the Kinect 1 had the same type of thing and looked equally amazing.

Fool me once Microsoft...

Definitely, its the main reason I probably wont get an Xbone. Kinect 2 will still be crap and it will be crammed into games without any regard for if it actually improves them. Designers proved this with the Wii, the other motion controls and the Gyros + Touch screen on the PS Vita. Not only that my Xbox 360 isn't in a lace where I can use Kinect and I would want the Xbone to be in the same place, next to my PC at my desk.

Yea, basically the "ribbon interface", except worse. Which I didn't think possible.

Of all the things I dislike about X1, it's the Kinect. Mainly because I wear a tinfoil hat, aside from that.. it will mean poorly implemented *everything* as OP already mentioned.

Hopefully they'll be sensible enough that they won't make it mandatory to use in-game.

Game designers? You can implement all of the Kinect features you want in order to appease Microsoft since you aren't going to have a choice on doing what they want. Just make sure that none of it is compulsory. Make it doable with a button combo as well.

Needing to yell at my tv in order to get it to perform even the most basic of functions that my remote can do much quicker and easier...Yeah, that sounds like a pretty terrible hook.

It isn't easier, cheaper, or more convenient.

Plus, as TB pointed out (although I was already mentioning this before) flawless voice recognition DOES NOT EXIST. Even the most recent technology for this can often be wrong and I think we can rest assured that MS will go for the cheapest version they can get away with.

It will make mistakes, it will misinterpret commands. Kinect was never anything more than a fucking gimmick and they should have just let it die off. Or at least keep it completely optional, like what Sony has done.
Playstation Move is not required in order for the entire machine to fuction

The only cool thing I've ever seen the Kinect do had to do with weapon menus in Ghost Recon Future Soldier. That's literally it, the only cool thing I've ever seen it do. If developers couldn't find any interesting uses for the Kinect during the entire time it was released for the Xbox 360 it doesn't bode well for its implementation into the Xbox One.

Of course it will be optional. Imagine something happening to your Kinect station, you're not able to play games all of a sudden? Optional means a lot of people will *probably* not bother having it repaired since they wont use it...there are certainly *lots* of people saying they wont.

edit : Not having it repaired means less hassle for Microsoft :)

I'm expecting at least THREE games where I have to use my butt to interact with something. Maybe I'm a secret agent in a super elaborate unsupervised death trap and my hands are tied, and I'm sitting on the key to escaping the cage I'm inside. So I flex my super buttocks to reach that key and somehow insert it into the cage door. If kinect doesn't deliver Microsoft can go burn.

Crappy interfaces? It doesn't get crappier in these modern times than Skyrim's interface.

Are you guys crazy did you see how quick this thing allows you to interact with things its almost the same as a standard controller a few more iterations and we will be back to where we started theres progress.

I expect it to be largely discarded by devs with a few token gestures to its inclusion here and there basically you will be able to open the inventory screen with it or some shit.

I play games to relax. Not to jump around the living room like an idiot. Besides, it would be impossible to use an Xbone with my young children in the room.

Yeah, remember the DS? How many games had some kind of crappy blow into the mic gimmick or superfluous touch screen use? Pretty much all of them. I don't remember even Nintendo asking for them but they kept coming.

You never tried to play Steel Battalion on the original Kinect did you? In fact, other than dancing games, did any game actually benefit from Kinect at all?

they will throw it into every other game, even if it doesn't help at all, I was able to play ME3 just fine without the voice controls. imagine if everyone had kinect when it was released. EA never would have bothered to put keybindings for the controls that they had voice controls for

they have already confirmed that the xbone will not work without a kinect 2 connected

A lot of the problems the Kinect 1 saw was because the 360 was never built with it in mind. It was the 360's hardware that created a bottleneck that handicapped a lot of its games.
The XBone, on the other hand, won't have this problem, and the Kinect 2 has also seen improvements.
Watch the tech demo Wired did; it's amazing to see all the things it picks up on.

I understand many people feel doubtful after the Kinect 1's poor showing, and there's only so much you can expect from beta-smoke and mirrors. It also still needs developers to integrate it properly.
Seeing how I'm not planning on getting the XBone within the first year (I'm planning on doing a lot of travelling and can't afford to drop that much money), I'm maintaining a wait-and-see attitude. If it's good, it's good; if it's not, it's not. Either way it won't affect me, so I'm not worrying about it. Regardless, I'll still have my 360.
