I'm a lot excited, but America's economy hasn't fallen yet(unfortunately, because it will fall and the longer before it happens the harder the fall is going to be, on everyone). Those credit agencies that downgraded us are mostly for show, they don't actually affect much directly because it is the individual organizations that lend to the gov't that decide how much to lend at what price. It's close though, probably less than 5 years from now, there will be a major economic crash in the US. It will be worse than anything people are imagining, it will make the "great" depression, look like a Caribbean vacation.

definitely not. what is there to like about living now? disease, poverty, riots, economic crisis, famine....nothing to be 'excited' about
Then nobody can be happy ever because that's existed for us since humans have.
but it wasn't rammed down our throats like it is now
I'm sure they put a nice spin on the plague before. And war must've been like totally okay. Yea, the good ol' days when famine, war, poverty and social unrest were pleasant.
the plague and World War II are a bit different to a load of pillocks rioting
Yea, one was worse and people managed to be happy. Happiness doesn't depend on everything being right with the world all the time.
the OP said that BECAUSE of what's going on at the mo, he's excited to be alive, a doubt anyone in 1943 said 'wow, this war makes me happy to be alive right now"
Except for Nazi Germany, they were sort've excited about it. ^.^

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

So yeah, I'm excited. It can only get better if somehow the rioting turns into a zombie apocalypse.

I'm only slightly excited because if rioting breaks out in my town it may end up resembling the third act of "Hot Fuzz". I'm not going to spoil it if you haven't seen it. Though go see it now because it's an awesome film.

Excited? 12 of living in a "democratic" dictatorship has made me apathetic. Back in 2002, we protested PACIFICALLY agaisnt the government, and the military just charged agaisnt us, jailing people for pacifically protesting, killing others (yet, no trials for excessive use of force, but they did trialed people who participated in the protest), and injuring dozens.
And why did we protest? because the president wasn't fullfilling his promises, crime rate was getting higher every week, there were no jobs and there were dozens of families living in poverty and without a home, everything was getting expensive... all that plus a set of laws that ended up crippling the economy even further.
And to this day, we are even worse than 9 years ago, the capital has the highest murders per week, sometimes even reaching to 65 violent deaths in just a weekend, those who still can afford to buy dollars can't do it without the government placing a LIMIT on how many you can buy.
You can even own a bussiness because if you prosper, you are ought to get sanctioned by some law or get expropiated (that is, the government takes your bussiness away, and makes it theirs without any sort of compensation for you)

Do you see us rioting? destroying everything in our path? fuck, at least we keep some sort of integrity, we try to survive and take any chance we get to get this beast out of presidency in a non-violent way. NO, you don't even hear from us, because we're not a major power anymore, we're just the guys who make your cars run with our oil.

TLDR; After all my kind of off-topic tirade I say that, as much as there are injustices in UK, there's no way people should riot or have any sort of violent reaction for what's going on. Violence rarely solves anything, and it does more damage than good.

I would like things to change (in a positive fashion), but I don't see this happening. The riots are idiotic and truly nothing new, and the down in the market is insignificant in comparison to previous downturns Americans pushed through.

Honestly this is nothing. It really is minimal stuff.

The police will eventually get their shit together, the politicians will cave on spending for them and they'll get their reprieve. London won't be burning for too much longer, maybe a week, maybe a bit more. The riots aren't full scale civil war, you're literally talking a few hundred people per area, riots in Manchester started today with a whole 40 people. Yeah, 40.

America? It's fine, the downturn will reverse, we might get another dip or a few more but such is life. We're still doing well overall (the world) and the slight market upsets really aren't that bad, the media's just scare mongering cos...well, it's the media (which reminds me, Murdoch (owner of Fox News) has really managed to slip away from the limelight with all this shit going on. Bastard).

Anyway, it's really not that bad, not at all. It's pretty shitty, yeah, but the world sure as hell ain't ending. Worse has happened, worse will happen, this is just a drop in the water.

Funny thing is the US credit rating gets lowered and theirs fears of what is it now 5 EU members going into default and asai isn't doing much better so investors are pulling out of stocks and buying yep you guessed it US treasury securities because their still the least risky investment out their. Really its countries finally figuring out that they have to budget within their tax revenues because you can't keep spending money you don't have after you've exhausted all of your credit. This has led to spending cuts which pisses off those in "need" because then they get to support themselves, the people blame the rich that worked for what they have and the government that they elected.

Hey, internet historian, not sure you're qualified as an expert on anything so I wouldn't go determining your opinion as fact. Thanks.

I am definitely not excited as my current feeling is anger at the current riot in Manchester (it's my favourite city).
Even then I don't feel the same way as yours for the whole economy problem either. While yes change can be a good thing but would we all be able to endure the process on reaching to the change result?

The riots aren't anything to do with the economic downturn and more to do with the fact that those "youths" would be rioting no matter what state their countries are in. We've seen this before in the North (Northern Ireland to you not Irish folk) where sadists blew up civilians in the name of the Republic, giving all nationalists a bad name.

...okay, I think you have the words " slightly excited" confused with "slightly anxious."

I'd like to think change is coming. I would be excited for change. Sadly my faith in humanity is pretty damn low and I believe that once this blows over it will be the same people running the world. Maybe China will be the major super power. Maybe something completely different will happen. But in the end it will all be the same.
To quote the last line of Deep Space 9. "The more things change, the more they stay the same"

Excited because people over here and rioting and destroying things for no good reason, no. The whole thing started with a man with a loaded gun getting shot by police, then people began rioting and looting. Others joined in because they could and whilen the background this has happened in is to blame, it's not a good thing.
This may be a sign of change but frankly, it is NOT a good one.
