It's not something I go out to watch myself, but I did see every single episode and loved it very much~ In fact, I should watch it again soon o.o Might be fun~

Oh it's one of my favourite cartoons.

It's so absurdist, and the most misanthropic thing I've ever seen.

It's totally not for kids, but in the safest of ways.

I love it.

But I think a convention for it alone goes too far.

I loved Invader Zim! I would have loved if it had continued longer than it did, but I suppose it's better that it ended while it was still good instead of when it had gone to shit.

I think Invader Zim is bloody brilliant. Episodes like Dark Harvest have something of the Ren and Stimpy Show about them - a show I loved as a kid.

A while ago I was working a second job as bar staff in one of my local boozers and a couple came in both wearing GIR back-packs. I may have shuffled the till to ensure their drinks were on the house.

I love Invader Zim, and I think it was a GREAT break away from other cartoons at the time (at least it seemed like it to me, at the time, anyway). I still watch the episodes and love them just as much, if not more, than when they were still on TV.

I would literally kill if they brought it back and decided to make another season of it or something. I mean, I know that's really far-fetched, and I know Nickelodeon really screwed out the creator of it.... but still! It would be nice.... Wishful thinking, anyway.

Loved it, still do (obviously). I like how the four main characters are insane and are completely unable to relate with each other. The show has a creepy design going on, of course, but that sense of isolation and dettachment made it peculiarly dark in ways I've never seen anywhere else (without making a big drama about it anyway). I also like how the show doesn't really side with either character, yet I sided with both of them at the same time, savoring their mutual failures. What can I say, I have a soft spot for solitary, deluded little guys. Maybe it's an empathy thing.

A WHOLE convention for it seem a bit too much though.

I don't really understand the purpose of a convention for a long-cancelled TV show with no ongoing franchise. But that's just me.
At the previous cons they had the voice actors reading out some of the unaired scripts, so in a loose way they're releasing new material for the cons. There's also a group trying to fan-animate some of the voiced-only episodes from the story boards, and they released an episode last time.

I thought the cartoon was okay. I wanted a cartoon series based off his better line of work.

This line of comics would make a great adult cartoon. Much in the same way HBO used to have Spawn.
Titmouse studios (the guys behind metalocalypse) are currently working on a Squee TV movie. Apparently if it turns out okay, a Johnny movie may be on the cards.

I love it I think most do, It more than any other show walked the razor thin line from "Made for kids" and "holy shit not at all for kids!" it died due to this paradox yet was loved for it. It was strange and dark yet somehow enduring and funny. It feels like it should be half of what it was and yet it was what it was and it almost impossible.

I loved Invader Zim.

I recently got to watch the whole series again on Netflix and now I'm tempted to buy the entire series because it is that good.

I loved it back then, love it now.

Still, it was a bit too bleak for it to be amongst my all-time favourites.
Not sure how, maybe it was a bit too hopeless?

I don't suggest reading Jhonen Vasquez's other works if you felt Zim was bleak. They are a hell of a lot darker. I used to love them when I was in my teens, but now I am a bit older, strangely enough I find the twisted black humour to be a little... sickly. It's odd really.

OT: I still love it, although I first got into it years after it got cancelled. I have the series on DVD and have probably seen it two or three times in total. To be honest the idea that our planet would be invaded, but by an absolute idiot of an alien is just hilarious to me. The series also has some brilliant lines, that are especially good for making people look at you like a weirdo.

Such as this:

I don't necessarily dislike bleak things.
But with Invader Zim there always was the odd feeling that I didn't like it as much as I should have, and I think it's because it's funny, but leaves the kind of feeling of depression.

Instead of being purely depressing or disturbing.

I can see what you mean.

I think it's a little like Heath Ledger's joker. He is a dark and dangerous character, who does some pretty nasty things, but at the same time he is also quite amusing. It makes him a lot more disturbing than the average, serious antagonist, and Invader Zim does something similar. It has some fairly disturbing themes, but is presented in an almost childish way.

I suspect it is also why many people don't like clowns.

couple of years ago I got my wisdom teeth out, spent the entire recovery time on painkillers and rewatching the entire series with my little brother, he had never even heard of the show before then.

It was pretty awesome when it was on and i still watch it we never it's on in reruns. Loved the dark, messed up humor and character designs. Sucks it last longer.
