Played it on the PC, it'll work fine on the console. It might have been a PC exclusive, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the people who were designing the interface and controls were given instructions to make it workable on the consoles as well. So I wouldn't worry too much about the controls.
Well, that's interesting. Would you say that they changed things around from the first game?
The combat system is completely different (and better), so certainly a change. Its real-time hack 'n' slash (albeit particularly difficult) so it certainly lends itself to a pad.

Fantastic game, I can see why people didn't like the ending, but personally I did.

I liked the ending, it just felt like chapter 3 flew by too quickly...

Also I have to say I have the utmost respect for CD Projekt Red for not putting in any DRM garbage.

It was made to work with a controller because that's what the PC version also supports. The ability to port the gameplay to the consoles easilly seems like an added bonus.
While that is also a possibility, I find it less likely than my scenario. Not many people preffer the controller to mouse+keyboard. I'm sure some do, but they're a minority. Granted, making your game work with a controler does have a nice side effect of preventing you from going overboard with the input options. But still, I'm pretty sure that a multiplatform release was their original intent in designing the game.

The Witcher 2 is better in every aspect than The Witcher 1 or Dragon Age for that matter.

Some people are bothered by the ending. But the ending is solid. The game told the story it wanted to tell and it did better than 99.99% of the games. Sure there are a few characters still out there [in The Witcher 2] whose ending is unsure. But it is not needed for every character to have closure. Only the main characters. And you can pretty much guess what is gonna happen anyway. And that is an ideal setting for The Witcher 3.

Also, the game has the best graphics I have ever seen in a game... ever. Fortunately, my computer could handled the maximum settings.

The only thing I dislike about The Witcher 2 is the gameplay. It felt rugged and slow. But I could have lived with that. The real issue is the gameplay balancing. You got 3 specialization trees: Magic, Alchemy and Combat. Alchemy sucks, combat works fine, but magic has 1 skill that makes you pretty much immortal; the I-win-button. /facepalm

I can still recommend the game. And yes, it is much better than Skyrim. There, I said it!

Well it sure as hell never played like a PC exclusive, in fact the entire time I was playing it felt like the shoddiest fucking port I've had thus far.
So ya it will work great for consoles because that's what it was actually made for, PC was just the debug test bed.

Not sure how your fondness for Fallout can mix with this though, it is far closer to the Skyrim type fantasy game then anything else.

I understand, but TES just seems to lack soul and personality compared to that badass grey-haired dude.

With Fallout, it's easy 'cause I just love sci-fi.

I doubt that's the problem people have with the ending. I might be wrong though, is it? I was under the impression that people found it seriously anti-climactic.
I wouldn't know. I don't have a problem with the ending.

My theory on the balancing is that because they pretty much switched to another control scheme half-way through the development, they just quickly slapped something together. Everything about the combat and the skills in the game is half-baked, I can't see any semi-competent game developer thinking it's good.
That might explain some of it, if it is indeed true.

I quit the Witcher 2 shortly after I arrived at Flotsam due to me not being able to get used to the combat mechanics. It felt clunky and not fun at all. After about 6 months of it collecting dust I tried it again (this time playing the tutorial) and I found it so much more entertaining. I guess it's one of those games you have to get used to first.

Also as a side-note: The world map really sucked.
