Just curious; not necessarily looking for an answer or anything, but if you have one, that'd be pretty cool. My brother's Xbox360 keeps freezing whenever he plays games. We suspect that it might be his game (2k9) that's the culprit, but anyways, he's pretty po-ed because he keeps getting dropped (automatic loss on live).

Anyone else ever encounter this issue?

This could be a variety of reasons, the 360's crap-tastic manufacturing being one of them. And I love my 360, so I'm just speaking the truth. As for the Live issues, it could be related to your internet if you're running DSL or slower. Mine worked better once we got a faster internet connection at our house.

You wanna know how bad it was?

It took 6 hours to download Castlevania: SOTN. Which is less than 100 MB.

A few things to try

Disconnect and reconnect the Hard Drive, sometimes they can get lose and make the system lock up

Clear the hard drive cache http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-59.html Don't worry it wont erase your saves, just temporary data and game updates, games will auto update when you play them again when connected to live

Make sure the 360 is in a place that's well ventilated, they over heat fast when locked inside entertainment centers

Not really... Unless I'm playing games made by a company that rhymes with "Dethesda".

When I had a problem with Oblivion locking up every 30 mins clearing the cache fixed it, so it might work for you

At least it don't freeze like it did before the patches.

Saint's Row 2 and Mercenaries 2 freeze a ton, too.

None of your games are causing it. The Xbox 360 is great, but it is a fundamentally broken piece of hardware. It freezes quite a lot. Particularly when you're coming up on the RROD. If it freezes a lot, then you might want to start saying your goodbyes.

Mine does this every once and awhile. The best thing you can do is get a cooling system for it and make sure you have the warranty handy. Im on my third 360. Also, SAVE OFTEN!!!

since the NXE mine's started to freeze a lot more frequently than it used to, the worrying thing is it's one of the really old units, and it NEVER used to crash, so actually updating has been detremental to my XbBox experience.

oh, and now it takes a couple of minutes to shut down for some reason
