Anyone feel that furry fandom seems to be snobbed at many multifandom conventions?

Seems when Syrian refugees and adults shared a con with furs, both the kids and adults liked it.

Given as my only exposure to the fandom thus far was two guys getting kicked out of the local theatre for masturbating while watching Zootopia (and wouldn't it have been fun if my nine-year old niece had seen that) I'm hard-pressed to say anything nice.
I'm calling bullcrap on the story about someone masturbating in a theater to zootopia,i found news reports about a woman masturbating during a 50 shades of gray movie showing, but i haven't found any news stories about a furry doing that stuff.

No, but I do remember once hearing about a pair of people at a furry convention who had sex on the hood of a car in front of a public park. Because of those two idiots, the city banned any further furry conventions, and the money being raised at the con to keep a fire station from being shut down didn't show up. Something like that.

Seriously, no matter what, EVERY fandom, every GROUP has its bad apples, its negatives, its stereotypes that makes people point and go "DUDE THOSE PEOPLE ARE WRONG!!!!"

How about Anime fans who are into that creepy tentacle hentai?

Or those weird D&D fans who run around in the forest throwing little baggies while shouting "Lightning Bolt! Lightning bolt!"?

Maybe those gamers who go hur hur over the boobs bouncing about in Dead Or Alive: Beach Volleyball?

What about the sports fans, who hold those riots over a simple soccer game?

And the GAYS! I mean, think about them, all flamboyant and loving dudes, that's not right!

Hey, how about catholic priests? Have to keep them away from the little boys.

There's also those arabs who go around causing bombings. Can't trust them.

ANY group, no matter what, has bad apples, and they're often the loudest, and people always focus on the most astounding, ridiculous stories about bad, evil things. Because frankly, people focus on negatives more than positives or neutrals 85% of the time.

Yup. it is true. Like i heard about a star wars fan who actually threatened someone over revealing a spoiler of the movie.

I remember one time when anime meant to most people hentai, when all anime isn't rule 34,i know there are some furry artists who draw r34,but i also know of some furry artists who won't draw yiff and will only draw clean art.

I know of some creepers at cosplay cons who actually go around photographing girls and putting their images on pillows, but does that mean all cosplayers do that? No it doesn't. I also know of some who sexually harass women at SDCC. but does that mean everyone who goes to SDCC does that? No it doesn't. Just because some people of group X might do Y,that doesn't mean all people of group X do Y.

I reminded of this quote.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

So because you 'never heard of such a thing' it never happened?

Wow.

Just...wow.

Given that logic, anything that happens in my city never happened because it's not on the news or in the newspaper where you live.

I mean the newspapers on the internet. I can easily search the news of any state on google and i found no such thing. You're makng stuff up.

Plus what about the charity that furs do?

There are groups of fursuiters who visit children with cancer and such, there is even a furry charity that helps the red cross called furs for life, there is also a charity on extralife where furs visit hospitals.

Many fursuiters visit children?s hospitals. Fursuiters often have outings to visit children in order to make them smile. I mean nothing puts a giant grin on a childs face like seeing a giant stuffed animal come to life. Kijani Lion often posts videos of his outings with his friends and how they have brought some joy into the lives of some children. Many of the conventions have raised tens of thousands of dollars for charity.

http://www.anthrocon.org/charity/summaries
Charity event summaries from past charity events:

Therapy Dogs - $2,200 (1997)
Whiskers - $3,200 (1998)
Great Valley Nature Center - $3,600 (1999)
National Greyhound Adoption Program - $6,500 (2000)
Reins of Life - $7,200 (2001)
Canine Partners for Life - $13,200 (2002)
Support Our Shelters - $8,300 (2003)
Forgotten Felines & Fidos - $7,200 (2004)
Greater Philadelphia Search & Rescue - $6,400 (2005)
Western Pennsylvania National Wild Animal Orphanage - $8,400 (2006)
Animal Friends - $7,608 (2007)
Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue - $13,154 (2008)
Animal Rescue League of Western PA Wildlife Rehabilitation Center - $8,992 (2009)
Fayette Friends of Animals - $12,849 (2010)
Toonseum - $11,522 (2011)
Hello Bully - $20,656 (2012)
Equine Angels Rescue - $31,255 (2013)
The National Aviary - $32,372 (2014)
The Western PA Humane Society - $35,910 (2015)

Total Raised for Charity: $240,518

There might be some bad people, but there are also people who try to do good for the world. I think you must have met the bad type of furry that makes us furries who do stuff for charity look bad.

...he says, assuming I live in the states. And - and this is a crazy thought, but try to follow me - did you ever consider that it might not have been considered a newsworthy story for my town? You know; at all?

But please, by all means, continue. At this point your foot should be so far down your throat that you could use yourself as a pogo stick.

Yeah, there might be some bad people in furry, but you will find bad people in every group or such. Like because some Muslims are extremists, not all Muslims are like that. Truth is every group has good and bad in every group. Like Because there are some Catholic priests who are perverts, but that doesn't mean all Catholics.

Because not enough people have seen this video: Most statistics that can be scrounged up are featured in the video and those arguing that the yiffers are the dominant portion of the fandom will be reeducated with force until moral improves. XD

OT: I have yet to go to any con so I cannot say for sure but there seems to be so much baggage and stigma attached to the subculture that you would probably wear yourself down trying to explain and justify yourself at one. So much so that one would probably not even bother. That is just my thoughts however.

"Furry" as a label implies a fetish. I think it's a stretch to say you find anthropomorphized animals to be aesthetically pleasing while also denying any sort of sexual interest in them. I mean, I'm not Sigmund Freud or anything, but come on.

I'm okay with fetishes as long as people recognize the line between fantasy and reality, but to the average person, bestiality is depraved, and furry fetishes are only a few steps removed from bestiality. It's not hard to see why people would be creeped out by it, and being honest with myself, I'm pretty creeped out by it too. It's not a matter of good press or bad press or even prudishness; it's a general perception of sexual deviancy, in the same vein as people who like loli stuff or have a rape fetish. Rape, pedophilia, and bestiality are like the big three sexual taboos in almost every culture today, and anything even approaching those will always be met with general disapproval.

Really? I never noticed a distinct lack of furries at what few cons I've been to. Hell, there's usually a furry night or gathering or whatever its called at most of the Cons here is Missouri.

As far as comics, I don't read any so I never noticed a lack of furry.

And to be fair, there certainly are loads of furry centered cons.
Well I have a thing for Werewolf girls, does that make me a Furry?

Also sorry Werewolf fans try as you might Werewolves are just not as scary as Vampires, Shadow of the Vampire and Coppola's Dracula proved me otherwise.
Yes. This make you a Furry.
On my part, I love the whole Furry Kingdom which I will accept everything it have to offer me.
Or any kind of strange girl I find on internet because why not, is hot in my book.

I meant Werewolf girls like these:

Not the ones that are just humans with dog ears and a tail.

Yes, this is furry.
The one you described, humans with dog ears and tails, aren't furry in my opinion.

Btw, why we care so much? The "normal" people will judge us for both selections of waifus we have.

Yeah,i don't get how people even get the idea that looking at pictures of animal headed people means that someone will go after the family dog or cat. Cause i know that in the fandom, that furs don't like any form of animal abuse and anyone who harms a animal gets ostracized and chewed out by other furries. There is even a furry group now that goes after those who abuse animals. I know when someone abused a animal, people went to the persons profile and posted insults on their profile.

I thought the term "furry" didn't refer to a fandom, but rather a sexual preference/fetish. Hence, at any con, porno rules like "nobody under 18" would need to be instated.
It does, but a lot of furries like to pretend otherwise because they're tired of being marginalized.
Is that similar to how people who like anime are actually in it for the hentai and loli's?
Basically. The other issue is that the main hub for furries- Fur Affinity is bloated to the gills with the weirdest fucking fetishes imaginable.
The furry label is both appropriate and misrepresentative because of the connotations it brings. Me for instance, I'm a furry. But I don't give a shit about fursonas, fursuits, and I don't illustrate in the "furry" aesthetic. Its just that most, if not all of my art centers around animals or anthro animals. To be honest I do like porn with anthro animals in them. However that is hardly the exclusive thing that gets me going. I have plenty of sexual interest my fellow human counterparts. A good example of illustrating this from the outside- those who think Turians and to extension Garrus- are hot as fuck aren't furries/scalies.

You have some people who treat furry as a lifestyle. The same way you have people who treat liking anime as a lifestyle. Doesn't mean a weeabo is representative of all anime fans. Same with hardcore furries.

Do you really not understand how someone could just find what you're into creepy, without thinking you're going to rape their pet?
If I were to say that you hypothetically being into moe anime means that you may have an actual inkling to fuck 13 year olds I would be burned on an internet pike. They are called furries because they are only attracted to animals that are basically humans with fur and ears. They are not sexually attracted to real shit eating dogs. That's why it's called beastiality not furry.
Your ignorance on the matter doesn't change that.
