At the beginning of the year I bought a YLOD phat PS3 off ebay for £60, with the intention of fixing its problem myself. I got myself a heatgun and took the PS3 apart, heated up the CPU and GPU and put it back together. Whadyaknow, it actually worked! Got myself a PS3 for £60 :) :)

Right now, Im waiting for the CPU and GPU to cool down so I can put that same PS3 together again (because unfortunately its only a temporary fix), and I was wondering if there was anyone else on the forums who has tried to fix their consoles, retro or current gen, and whether they had any luck?

My brother's older ps3 broke when a new system update happened. He looked around online how to fix it and found a video guide on how to fix it on youtube using a heat gun. He followed the guide and to our surprise it actually worked.

I put 30 rounds of 5.56 Nato through my old 360 when it got the red rings it didn't fix it though but it was fun.

Routinely. I took my PS2 apart and pretty much rebuilt it. My friend back home was so impressed, he asked me to fix the cooling issue in his. I ended up doing basic maintainance on everyone I knew that had one.

Fuck xbox though, they can do it themselves.

Ive found myself hoping that my 360 breaks just so that I have a good excuse to take it apart. No use in voiding the warranty until there is definitely a problem though, and I know I cant get it fixed for free.

Sounds like the video I used. Always nice to avoid that fee for fixing.

My 16 year old SEGA never broke. Good times. Though, the wiring got a little messed up, but that's all.

I fixed my PS2, my Laptop, and old Xbox 360 easily by just replacing, unplugging, and generally readjusting cables. Also when anythign freezes up, a good smack helps. And even if it doesn't it's unbeleiveably satisfying.

I fixed my broken controllers by messing with their wires, and fixed a Red Ring'd 360.

I fixed my old PS1 when it stopped reading disks and when I say fixed, I mean broke. It ruined my Driver 2 disk (bad times) and if it weren't for some self restraint, could have ruined Spyro 3 which would have ultimately lead to my suicide.

I can bring an X-Box back to long lasting life from a RROD for $17. The X-Clamp procedure works.
