Anyone here collect animation cels (the plastic sheets that the animators painted the animation on to back in the pre-digital days)? I've started a small collection recently, I love that it's possible to literally own part of the show as well as a unique, one-of-a-kind item!

(I really like this one, it's made up of three cel layers and came with it's original background! The artwork in this show is such great quality!)

I have a small (but much loved collection) haven't gotten any new ones in years, since my finances aren't as healthy as they were when I was collecting.

One from Escaflowne Movie--Hitomi & Merle at the moment H first shows M pendant..M's eyes closed & tail cut off (suspect it was on separate cels to give it motion)

One from Escaflowne TV series--Close up of Merle very agitated. Sketch included.

One from Ruin Explorers--Close up of Fam smiling, eyes closed.

One from Maze TV series--close up of Rande hands outstretched to receive a jewel. Background included.

One from Nuku Nuku TV series--smallish close up of Nuku Nuku. Sketch included.

One from Ah! My Goddess! Movie--close up of Morgan La Fey in faerie form.

One from Hyper Police--Close up of Sakura, eyes closed.

One from Sailor Moon--Small close up of Makoto in jacket & baseball cap. Sketch included.

One from Maze TV--Close up of Princess Mil with Rande sitting on her head. I think it is from the bath scene in the OVA. Sketch included.

One from Great Teacher Onizuka--Close up of Akari in torn t-shirt Sketch included.

One from Sailor Moon--Makoto in green sport bikini holding a fish skewer with Chibiusa walking in front of her. Have the sketches of both Makoto & Chibiusa *BUT* the sketch of Makoto is stuck to the cel, dramatically decreasing the value of both. The shot is from one of the episodes that never aired in the US.

One from Ah! My Goddess! Movie--mid-range shot of Morgan La Fey in faerie form, looks like it is from the moment when she goes out the window backwards.

One from Sailor Moon SailorStars--Close up of Makoto in school uniform.

One from Battle Athletes--Range shot of Akari in school uniform--sitting at a desk or something. Sketch included.

Three from Rokumon Tengai (Mon Colle Knights)--sequence of 3 cels used to animate Gluko & Impy eating bowls of noodles. Sketches for all 3 included.

One from Rokumon Tengai--Prince Eccentro sitting.

One from Hyper Police--close up of Natsuki, eyes closed.


I always forget how many of these I have until something like this comes up and I pull out the artbook to look at them all.....

While I probably never collect them, there are a few that I would like to own.

I would love to own a Simpsons cell one day (very hard since they're expensive, but on the plus side there are a lot of them. So long as I'm not too picky about what cell I own, I'm sure I could get one)

There is a store near my house that has a big box of cells from old marvel TV shows such as the 90's X-Men, Hulk, and Fantastic Four series. I'm hoping to maybe one day get one of those.

I've actually looked in getting some but I had to quit my job soon after due to moving so I never ended up going through with buying them.
Someday I'd love to own some from the likes of Slayers, Card Captors, Ranma, Trigun and such.
I doubt I'll ever have a large collection though, thanks to my compultion to collect everything.

Oh and might I add if we ever meet outside of the internet I may have to murder you and take that second Bubblegum Crisis cel.

But they are so darn expensive

Get them from Japan, they're quite cheap. The most expensive one I have is the Hajime no Ippo one, which cost... 1000 yen. The Lain ones were 100 yen and the BGC ones 500 yen.

Really? I don't even know what scene it's from, I'm just happy to have any BGC cels for cheap

I have three. The pictures won't be the cels I have, because they're about 700 miles away.

Rei in her skiing outfit, from Sailormoon.

Baby Hotaru, also from Sailormoon. Because Hotaru is my favorite character, and that is the only cel of her I've managed to get my hands on so far.

I also have a Cheetara cel, from the original ThunderCats, but it is just a cel of her in her normal costume with no real context, so no point in finding a similar picture. Everyone knows what Cheetara looks like.
