I've been considering dropping some money on a 3DS for a good month now, since there are a lot of games on it that I want to play. But I've been waffling between a 3DS and a 2DS.
Well, I don't like 3D. It gives me monster migraines that don't go away for a good couple of hours. And since this seems to be the only difference between the 3DS and the 2DS in terms of features, I've been drawn to getting a 2DS for the lower price.

There are some things that make me hesitant about getting it over a 3DS though.

1. It looks like I could ductape it to a bit of wood and wield it like an axe.
2. It looks uncomfortable to hold.
3. It doesn't look very portable (no clam shell means it takes up more room in your pocket).

Item 1 isn't very important to me since I don't mind looking like a fool to others. Item 3 isn't that big a deal since I never really used my DS in public, anyways.

However, item 2 worries me. Being comfortable while gaming is very important, and if it really is as uncomfortable to hold as the screenshots make it look, then I might just bite the bullet and get the more expensive 3DS.

This is all speculation, though, and I was hoping there was someone here that has gotten their hands on a 2DS that can answer my question: Is it comfortable to hold despite the bulky looking design? I only ask because the only people I know with the nintendo handhelds all own 3DS's.

Well it was made for children so you can expect the design to lean more towards sturdy chew toy then ergonomics.
Only held it for a couple of minutes so I really can't tell what strain is abound but you can quite simply simulate by holding any slab of plastic for hours, probably no more comfortable/uncomfortable then tablets.

A friend of mine has one and he let me try it out. It's lighter than a normal 3DS but it is a little awkward to hold at first. You have to wrap your fingers around the pack to hold it up and consciously hold it there.. Fun little system, would rather have a 3DS though. It's not that much of a price difference between the 3DS though so if you save up for a bit more, I think you should go for the 3DS.
