If there's one thing I always ache for when starting a new project, it's that I have nobody to discuss ideas and thematic elements with. From the initial inspirations to the daunt of proof editing, I've always been somewhat in need of a decent, active writing community.
Joined a real life one, but it only meets weekly.
And the online sites I have joined get maybe, one or two posts over a 24 hour period.

There are a few usergroups here on this page I see;

[a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Up-Coming-Writers]Up Comming Writers[/a], [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Writers-Union]The Writers Union[/a] & [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Writers-of-the-gaming-world]Writers of the Gaming World[/a].
Tried joining anyone of them?
The Escapist communities are more like a chat log than an actual forum, so not really what I'm looking for.

http://www.protagonize.com/

A writer friend goes on that site a fair bit, I think its focus is on collaborative writing but it has neat competitions and a fairly good editor (from what I've seen)

Ah okay.
A bit shame you sell them off shortly but I understand it.
I don't know any place personally but I know a friend of mine called [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/StarWrecker]Starwrecker[/a] used to be a member on one forum.
I suppose you could always toss him a PM and ask him (he doesn't post a lot).
I'm by no means setting them off short, but Escapist Communities don't have their own interior forums... if they do, I've never been able to access them.

I use http://www.critiquecircle.com/ although I am not sure if that is exactly what you are looking for. It sounds more like you are looking for is someone or a small group where you can bounce idea's around. I feel like that is much harder to come by because in a group of writers most just want to talk about their own idea and not really willing to take turns and listen.

The thing I like about critique circle is that they force you to critique other people's stories before you can post your own so you are assured to get feedback because everyone wants to post their own stories.

Not sure if that helps at all.
