By this I mean Devil May Cry, Dante's inferno, God Of War -like games.
Y'know, with the Over-The-Top moves and upgradable attacks.

(And before I get called out/raged at, I do know what traditional Hack-n-slash games are, I do own Champions of Norrath and the like)

Castlevania lord of shadows . It's pretty good , not very hard ( even on hard mode, my first playthrough was on hardmode ), and it's pretty long , but good non-the-less.

Also bayonetta is crazy fun/trippy and i really suggest it ( check au the ZP of bayonetta to see if it interest you).

The Team Ninja Ninja Gaiden games are probably the best the genre has to offer if you're looking for a solid deep fighting engine and fast brutal action. The most recent Castlevania was also supposed to be pretty good though I haven't gone hands on with it yet. There's also Batman Arkham City for something more recent, though that's not really weapon based.

Sadly there aren't too many titles in that vein out there these days. If anyone has any other recommendations, I'd like to hear them too.

Oh you want STYLISH hack and slash. Okay thats more specific. a couple of mmos I can think of are Dragon Nest and Rusty Heart. Nomrla games, wel.. Not many hjave come ouit recently. I mean the only one I can think of was that one game where u played an angel and I found it so boring I can't even remember its names. Ah but dont fret my friend the days of combos, move cancelling and intense aerial juggling are no where near gone. I would try looking forward to the new DMC if you can get over the fact they butchered dantes look, and the plot, and his epicness, and he smokes now. Ah screw it.

Ah, I do have that actually. I think my adventuring I-need-to-get-everything made me stop playing between the ENTER DISK 1 and vice versa bits.

Ah ninja gaiden, Those were good games. The batman one seemed a bit to stealthy for the super-multi-combo-bloodshed mood i'm in at the moment...

I'd say Ninja Blade
a lot of people call it a ripoff of Ninja Gaiden, but really, think of it like this
if Ninja Gaiden was Grand Theft Auto, Ninja Blade would be Saints Row
also, Garshasp the Monster Slayer
it's really nothing special, but it does have some pretty awesome art design, and somehow, it has no loading screens during the game, only when starting it, which makes the entire game feel like it's basically just one huge stage

Blood Will Tell for the PS2 is a great one. Amazing characters, great settings, interesting combat mechanics, and epic bosses. The character of Dororo will probably grate on your nerves after a while.

if you have psp, final fantasy dissidia (1 or 2) are fricking amazing games, they are hack n slash fighting games, with levelling up and items and stuff, and the battles are the most fun in a fighting game that i've ever had.

Looks nice, but I don't think I'll be buying a PS2 game for £30. I'll keep a lookout for it though!

Genji: Dawn of the Samurai was really fun, though a bit short.
Musashi: Samurai Legend wasn't bad either, even though I got stuck pretty early on xD.
And if Okami counts, throw that one in there.

I feel weird for suggesting a bucket of eastern-themed games, but they were all that immediately came to mind.

EDIT: woah... I just realized that all of those are for the PS2. I can't think of many for this-gen consoles... weird.

I was also going to say Bastion. The art and music are incredible, and it's packed with hacking and slashing.
Its not that kind of ISO- Hack-n-Slashing I'm looking for sadly, more frantic combo air-jump stuff.

Also, welcome to the escapist!

hmm okay then, current gen excluding ps3 (meaning 360, wii, and PC), im a little limited since im mostly into ps3 but you could try D&D daggerfall, torchlight, titan's quest, or diablo 1 or 2 (not technically current gen but damn good)
