Anyone know any new gaming channels that focus on comedy (like AVGN?)

I can't seem to find scripted comedy gaming channels these days, because most people just do Let's Plays, walkthroughs, or straight reviews. I'm preferably looking for something new and smaller, since I always kind of hate when a channel gets too big and it stops feeling relatable, plus I just feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Maybe I'm just a contrarian.

Brutalmoose and Caddicarus are both pretty good for being Jontron ripoffs. I'm not sure if they're small enough for you, though. They've quite grown in popularity in the recent years. I advise starting with their older videos to get a better hang of them.

You can give JonTron [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdJdEguB1F1CiYe7OEi3SBg] a try. I know he recently got some bad rap, but his videos are fine.

Dunno if you'd like it but there is Carbot Animations [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1uug_uZrVmylfPVBLBvitQ] - the guy does short funny videos based on Blizzard games. He is most famous for "StarCrafts" (based on...StarCraft) but has branched out into World of Warcraft, Diablo and Heroes of the Storm. Some of the jokes require you to know at least something about the games and some of the StarCrafts are even riffs on the current (at the time) meta in the game, but overall, they are quite good.

It's not exactly comedy, but the channel deserves all the recognition it can get: MrBtongue [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI3GAJaOTL1BoipG41OmfyA] - produces very high quality videos about games. Some are about a particular game, some are about some theme or element of a game or games but the guy is amazing. You really cannot go wrong with somebody who mixes philosophers with gaming. The downside is that he uploads very irregularly - there were about four videos last year, for example.

Give Accursed Farms [https://www.youtube.com/user/chilledsanity/featured] a go, as well. The guy did Freeman's Mind [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6PNZBb6b9LvDWpI-5CPYUxG1Rnm-vr9V] which is amazing, if you've not seen it. I'd class it as a comedy show but it's also, very loosely, a let's play - he's playing Half-Life but providing Freeman's voice. It's not strictly a let's play as he's playing it as realistically as possible and uses cheats here and there to shorten the playthrough by, for example, allowing Freeman to "climb up" and bypass a section. Civil Protection [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6PNZBb6b9Lsr6ZnEzRJ5FqBbSYI4rHFj] is a short series set in the Half-Life 2 world and animated using the Source engine. It follows some comedic adventures of the combine soldiers.

There is also TJ Laser Space Scumbag [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL975B4642609C30A9] - it's similar to Freeman's Mind in the sense it's very loosely a let's play but the guy doing it has done a complete voiceover of Shepard (first name: TJ Laser) in Mass Effect 3 and presents him as a hilarious insufferable prick.

EDIT: Now with more samples

That type of (angry) review style is dead for the most part. There are some exceptions, but overall this genre of review is nowhere near as popular as it was between 2006-2011. Though I can recommend Stop the Skeletons From Fighting (formally known as the Happy Video Game Nerd). Derrick is the complete opposite of AVGNs style as hist stuff is funny and factual. Though ironically, AVGN is subscribed to STSFF and loves his work. I prefer him over James, as he tends to do better research compared AVGN. This was especially noticeable during his early days. Plus, he covers obscure games or ports of rarely anyone else talk about nowadays. Plus he talks about the ins and outs of gaming history and businesses practices of the industry.

PeanutButterGamer [https://www.youtube.com/user/PeanutButterGamer] is pretty funny in his main channel. He isn't new (he is probably as old as JonTron), but has more material than just reviews.

But even his bad old game reviews are pretty humorous.

Caddicarus is pretty much a British JonTron.

Space Hamster is a good fill for PeanutButterGamer (they even help each other with videos and do a LP series called PB&Jeff).

Jordan Underneath is really good if you like horror games. But he's been uploading less due to illness.

ProJared's another good choice if you like RPG's (both east and west) and his reviews always have a personal connection instead of "here's a random shitty game".

Thanks for giving me some new stuff to watch, though I'm already familiar with some of them, AVGN is just the prototypical example of a comedy gaming channel. Though it's interesting that many of these are at least half a decade old. Is this style of gaming channel just on the decline, or is the rise of Let's Plays just making it way harder to find them?

Most of his stuff isn't scripted, but Jerma985 is a riot. He used to do impressions and commentaries, but now he mostly does Twitch streams and uploads the highlights on YouTube.

Original channel (mostly abandoned, but a good place to start):
https://www.youtube.com/user/Jerma985

New channel:

If laughter is the best medicine, Jerma's could very well be the cure for cancer.

Someone already mentioned ProJared, but didn't gave examples. He does part time LP's, but still brings out his comedy-filled reviews from time to time (he even made an april's fool review of Madden 2017 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0lWuJeaSv4] where he reviewed as if it was an RPG).

LetemcomeInit does some great video game poetry videos. They're funny and you also feel smarter while watching them.
