A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is an error-detecting code commonly used in digital networks and storage devices to detect accidental changes to raw data. Blocks of data entering these systems get a short check value attached, based on the remainder of a polynomial division of their contents; on retrieval the calculation is repeated, and corrective action can be taken against presumed data corruption if the check values do not match.
CRCs are so called because the check (data verification) value is a redundancy (it expands the message without adding information) and the algorithm is based on cyclic codes. CRCs are popular because they are simple to implement in binary hardware, easy to analyze mathematically, and particularly good at detecting common errors caused by noise in transmission channels. Because the check value has a fixed length, the function that generates it is occasionally used as a hash function. The CRC was invented by W. Wesley Peterson in 1961; the 32-bit polynomial used in the CRC function of Ethernet and many other standards is the work of several researchers and was published during 1975.
Your CD is busted, basically.
EDIT: Sorry, missed the part where you tried two disks.
Anyway, CRC errors usually are NOT found on disc (Or at least not displayed as such). Now that I think about it...
The installer isn't trying to hit the internet, is it?
EDIT: Google says this problem is not unique to you. Apparently, the Anno disk you have is super sensitive and CD drives hate it.
The fixes I see are to fit a new CD-ROM, or try the following.
Create a new folder on the hard drive
Now double click 'My Computer' and right click on the drive with the game
in.
From the menu choose 'Open' , you should now see the contents of the disk.
Now from the menu bar choose 'Edit' --> 'Select All' and then 'Edit' -->
'Copy'
Now open the folder you created and go to 'Edit' -->'Paste' .
You will need to repeat this process for all disks and place them into the
same folder.
Next reboot the computer into windows 'Safe Mode' to do this do the
following:
As soon as the BIOS screen loads, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
Do so until the 'Windows Advanced Options' menu appears.
If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard
error" message. If this happens, restart the computer and try again.
Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode' and then press
Enter.
In Safe Mode run the setup.exe from t
Personally, I'd just make sure you've deleted everything from your previous installs and try again.
