So the reviews have started pouring out for this game and are mostly positive.

Anybody looking forward to it coming out? Or do you feel its moved too far away from what it used to be. Since stealth games are still somewhat of a rare breed I'm prepared to deal with the differences.

I'm looking forward to it for the multiplayer (Which is rare) personally. Anybody who played and enjoyed spies vs mercs will know why. It looks a bit different now but is still pretty unique for a multiplayer. I kept going back to pandora tommorrow/ chaos theory to play that game. Easyily my most played on the xbox 1 along with halo 2.

The singleplayer itself looks fun, and it (apparently) catering to a few different play-styles means it could be worth a few replays.

The one thing I don't get: Ok, I guess it was inevitable that they lose Ironside at some point for Sams voice, but his replacement could AT LEAST sound like an older man!

Honestly no. I prefer the style of the original game and Chaos Theory. They've pretty much ruined the series in my mind.

Yeah I can see why many would think that.

I was kind of conflicted on conviction. I liked how it played but also missed how past splinter cells have played. Blacklist (seems to) be trying to fall somewhere in the middle. Which is enough for me :)

At least they put the major ones like non-lethal and moving bodies back in.

Also Its still slightly baffling with splinter cell's (and the last hitman) new found obsession with creating "cinematic experiences" since those were never what attracted people to the series in the first place.

I liked Conviction because it was basically "Taken: The Video Game" and if i'm honest, the originals always felt really clunky.
I'm not one for dumbing down of games, but I was a fan of Conviction's ability to streamline the gameplay and still keep the tactical freedom of the earlier titles.

That said, I would like Blacklist to be a nice hybrid of Conviction's style of Splinter Cell and the originals.

I'm looking forward to it. It looks like they're keeping the streamlining of Conviction, which was nice, but also adding back in a lot, if not all, of the toolset from the previous ones. I'm still sad that Ironside left and got replaced by Generic Army McToughGuy #5063892 though. if the game is good though, that won't matter as much. I hope the models from that game are as good or better than Conviction's though. Conviction had some very nice models, and I still work on porting some of them today.

Yeah, even when double agent came out people were starting to complain about how clunky it still felt. Stealth doesn't necessarily mean slow!

That said I'm not sure getting rid of the drop-down menu was a good idea. The "use" button on conviction regularly got confused between picking up a gun and climbing the pipe of safety. It seems the same can be said for blacklist here. Also not having to think about sound too hard anymore is a bit sad.

I've been a Splinter Cell fan through and through. Even if I don't get a review copy, I'll just go ahead and buy one.

Yeah yeah yeah, so it peaked at Chaos Theory, so what? I still loved Double Agent...and Conviction...sort of.
Double agent seems to be the game everyone wants to forget for some reason. I thought it had the best story of the lot by far. The (kinda half-baked) trust bar and choices were quite interesting too. Also it straddeling a console generation meant two separate splinter cells to play :D

Conviction almost felt like an experiment to me. How much could they change to attract a new audience without driving the current fans completely mental. Not TOO much it seems, since it looks like Ubi have tried very hard to appease both sides of the fence this time. Apparently even the forced "combat" sections are possible to sneak through if you're good enough :)

Nope, Conviction was pure shit and this looks like more of the same.

I loved Conviction as a game but I get the dislike towards it as it really didn't feel like a Splinter Cell. The fact many reviews say they've gone much more towards the originals while maintaining some of convictions better qualities makes me happy and confident it'll be a good game.

Also, Spys vs Mercs? Sign me up.

They took a decent stealth game and made it into a murderize everyone in a sneaky way game. Stealth games are too rare to do that and have me still be OK with that

That being said, if it looks like a return to form with a couple of Convictions better ideas, like being able to move pretty fast no matter where you were, the last known location mechanic, I'll take a peak.

The change wasn't as drastic for me since "lethal stealth" is my playstyle in these games anyway. Even in Thief I always blackjacked everyone so I could explore in peace XD

Ehh, I was never very interested in Splinter Cell as a franchise. How is he the best stealth operative in the game while wearing a set of neon green goggles on his face? My almost OCD tendencies to explore EVERYTHING clashes with stealth games rather drastically, open world ones at least. I tried a Thief game once and it made my brain hurt...

I really liked Double Agent though. The missions were cool and the dual factions system was relatively new and not overdone at all at the time so I liked that. The fact that you had like, 20 minutes in base to get a load of little missions done before the proper mission was great.

The developers said it at one point that the neon green light from the goggles as well as the back radio aren't actually visible in the game world itself. Only that it was a design measure to let the player be told where exactly Fisher is in the shadows.
