Where did it all go wrong? It was such a bloody great game with so much potential. The first DK was great, the 2nd one was even better, and when the 3rd was in the works... it just stopped.... WHY DID IT STOP!? Because the PS2 came out during the making of, and they instead believed that it would be more financially benificial to join that train... did anyone see any of their games?

Anyways enough of that. If you could, with any slight wish, want to see the Dungeon Keeper Series brought back? I certainly would. I wasted enough time on the other two, I'm sure to waste even more time on a third.

*EDIT* - Actually I just found something that is roughly like Dungeon Keeper though I doubt it will be anything like it used to be.

Actually, a game recently came out called Dungeons that is a lot like Dungeon Keeper. Check it out of you really love DK.

But yeah, I would like another one.

I've been thinking about getting the second one seeing as I was following the recent 'dungeons,' but heard that it paled in comparison to dungeon keeper. Helps that they are very cheap now too.

On that note, sure, I wouldn't mind seeing the series come back. I'm sure there's a niche that needs filling.

Everyone with a soul and a love for PC gaming likely remembers that game. Especially it's sequel. As previously mentioned in this thread, there's that "Dungeons" game that seems to be a spiritual successor to it but it doesn't seem to have the best reviews. Ok, but not what I'd hope given it's inspiration.

But take that for what it's worth, I haven't played Dungeons myself so I can't really speak on it.

From what people have said, it will never be as good as the originals. My theory is because of that "Hero" feature and those souls (I know there was Horny, but if we looked at him, we could only ever see him as our Hero of the Land Hitman, or Emergency Reserves). It was perfectly good how it was; why fix what ain't broke? Then again, I could see a good slap in the face lawsuit for copyright privilages :p thats if Bullfrog still even exists.

Remember everyone, "It's good to be bad".

Since everyone's bringing up Dungeons, I'll bring in my perspective, considering I own the game.

It is NOT Dungeon Keeper, nor is it a spiritual successor. It simply looks like it graphically.

Ever play any of the Tycoon games? Imagine Dungeons as a tycoon-style game, and you'll have the basic premise of it. The game does have its own share of humor, but I'd personally rate it a 7, below DK's 10.

Nothing will be a true successor to DK until... well... the actual DK series comes back from the grave, but seeing as how that will never happen :/ we're left with Dungeons, the wannabe. I'll try out the demo though, if not, I still have DK 2 on my desktop to fiddle around with :D

ok... tried the Dungeons demo... that game has no intentions of being anything close to being even a forgotten relative of Dungeon Keeper. Keep away from that game, thats my review.

Try Evil Genius. Completely different theme (bond villain) but similar playstyle. I think it's an awesome game :)

Dungeons isn't at all like Dungeon Keeper, aesthetic style and plot perspective aside. Unfortunately the closest thing to Dungeon Keeper released in the past few years was Evil Genius, a clever little game which unfortunately didn't sell very well and as a result the developers went under.

But that's alright because as odd as it sounds, Dwarf Fortress fills the niche Dungeon Keeper created perfectly. Building ever more elaborate bases rigged with nefarious death-traps and mechanisms to keep my treasures and people safe!

Which isn't to say I wouldn't like a Dungeon Keeper 3, far from it. I loved Horny, best demon ever. And the whole 'evil villain' vibe and story was extremely fun! But last I heard the Dungeon Keeper brand got sold off to some Korean company which plan to make a cutesy MMO with it, so yeah, don't hold your breath for a Dungeon Keeper 3 anytime within the next decade.

I played DK2, though it doesn't work on my current computer.

It wasn't a great game, the AI wasn't that impressive, but they were trying something a bit different and innovative (Bullfrog was like that), so points for that. I dunno if you'd want more like it, it worked mostly due to novelty, IMHO.

Yes, I loved DK2!

I'd love to kill the goodly heroes on the surface in DK3...
And by "kill" I mean imprison and turn into skeletons.

Dungeons is actually fun too.
But now the monsters have unfortunately fallen into the background.
And the heroes have become a source of income (you harvest their souls).

I was, and still am, a huge Bullfrog fan. The old games are dead cheap now, easily obtainable and, what's more, they still play brilliantly. DK2 and theme hospital in particular are both still absolutely fantastic.

From what I gathered Bullfrog were bought by EA and then DK3 was dropped in order to focus on Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings games.

Yeah....

Yes, Bullfrog had many great titles, the DK series, syndicate, theme hospital and the other games. I loved those games. It would be great if they resurected the franchise, tho syndicate would also be awsome to have a new game of.

This is pretty accurate. Dungeons is a game in a dungeon, and you're the dungeon master, and you design it to your whims....but it is NOT Dungeon Keeper.

If you go into expecting it to be, you'll be sorely dissapointed. I know I was. If you go into it without wanting it to be DK, it can be pretty fun though. Not comparable to DK, but amusing.
