hello, i was curious if anyone on these forums uses onlive at all? i have a mac i really want batman: arkham city so im definitely considering it for my mac through onlive. can anyone chime in to see if this would be the best option for me. im also kind of worried about the controls since im mostly a console gamer and used to controllers.

I've heard Onlive is actually pretty good, provided you're within range of one of their data centers. I think you're probably better off waiting for it to come out on Steam, though. Inevitably, it'll go on sale for a ridiculously low price, and when you get it, you'll have the whole game installed on your machine and thus won't be at the mercy of data streaming.

If you have fast enough internet, don't have a console, and OnLive works for Mac,I would say do it man.

If you want to be at the mercy of DRM and your ISP, then OnLive is for you. Oh yeah, and good luck modding that shit.

If you've got a console, you're better off just renting it or buying it in a month or two at half the price. The wait will probably make playing it all the more satisfying.

Tried out the new Deus Ex on it. Seemed pretty crappy, the delay was just too big to enjoyably play the game.

I've used Onlive since the UK release. Mostly because I got a bunch of free stuff from when I went to Eurogamer. It's a pretty decent system, but you need a good internet connection to run games properly.

What happens when the connection slows is first the resolution reduces dynamically to make sure you're still streaming alright, then the framerate will slow down, then the game will freeze momentarily until some connection is restored. I've found games on Onlive are typically running somewhere around 480p with a framerate of 30fps. This will be much faster if you have a better connection, but British ISPs have been dragging their heels for some time.

My advice then: If there's some crazy deal running on Onlive, then it's worth it (I got Deus Ex HR for £1 as part of the launch promotion). If not, then you're better off on your console of choice or on your pc.

I plan to use Onlive as essentially a rental service going forward. It's pretty ok for that.

So you're going to have lag from the data streaming, not to mention input lag as your button presses travel to OnLive and then back again to show you what happens. You won't actually own the game, it's the same always online DRM that people hate EA, Ubisoft, and now Blizzard (Diablo 3) for.

There's nothing good to say about OnLive, really. Don't use it.

Extended video game rental, you could buy a game permanently for the same **** price.
