Well ladies and gents, today is April 25, ANZAC day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corp), the holiest day of the Australian (and I'm guessing New Zealand) year. A day when we stand up, remember those who have fallen and those who came back, and those who are still fighting.
Just thought I'd start a thread, see if anyone has served, wants to tell stories of those that have served, or anything else related. Non-Aussie-Kiwi escapists, that goes for you to.
My Great-Grandfather served in the Assyrian levies (a minority militia in the middle east), in the first and second world war, often besides ANZAC troops, against the Turks, the Germans and their Arab allies. Its one of the reasons my family chose to come to Australia. A bunch of ANZAC troops also kept the Assyrian people from getting massacred by the Turks when they thought that certain ethnicities needed cleansing. My family owes the ANZACs (and, I'll credit, the Brits, but its not their day today) a lot.
