ok so i have been one of many to be waiting ever so patiently for Warhammer online to come out. and since its been pushed back iv been thinking, how is Age of Conan like, and will it fill my needs/ shitty computer's requirements. until the end of summer when WAR and my spanking new comp come to me.

im rather hesitant to give AoC a chance.
suggestions?

Wait for it, that's my suggestion. WHoL has a lot more development time, and a closer affiliation with the source material. More than that the team that's doing WHoL has a lot of experience with PvP (RvR) rpgs that have done well in the past. (see: Age of Camelot)

Both funcom (creators of Anarchy online) and Mythic are great companies. I think however Mythic has a slight advantage and if you're going to sink your time/money into one, it's better just to stick it out for a couple more months and see.

Regardless, I have read that the first 20 levels in AoC will be free to play. Nothing to invest, other than time.

I'm terribly biased as I moderate forums at one of the major WAR fansites, but even after playing the AoC beta and giving it the chance I think it deserves, I still have to give the edge to WAR, and waiting for it rather than jumping into AoC. There are a couple of reasons besides what will no doubt be mindless fanboyism on my part though.

Resources is one such thing. Yes, there is a negative here because it is EA standing behind Mythic with the pocketbook, but from following the game, EA has basically stood out of the way and told Mythic to make a good game. Proof is in EA's uncharacteristic tolerance for the multiple delays the game had. From what EA Mythic's CEO, Mark Jacobs is saying, they've been very supportive of the whole process because they want to hit a home run with the game.

I really have to give the edge to WAR for developer face time. While there are times when things get a bit hairy, the devs take the time to post on fansites, answer questions, and give tons of interviews. They really look like they are passionate about the game and its fans. One of the most recent examples was the developers making their own thread and answering questions on the forums for a week after the most recent delay. Given the craziness of online forums these days, that takes a lot of cajones and I have to hand it to them.

As far as mechanics go, both games are about equal because they offer different things, but I honestly have to give the edge to WAR for other factors. That being said, a lot of people are going to be trying out AoC over the summer to get in their fix, and nothing should stop you from doing so. There are some issues with AoC but on the whole it isn't enough for you not to at least give it a try and see how it goes from my experience with the open beta.

i'd have to say wait for WAR. AoC looks too generic and WoW like, with some of the combat being a bit different, ie the no targeting thing.

from what i've seen with the WAR ppl is they really like what they're doing and want to have a good game and have some fun along the way. if they pull off some of the things they want to it will be really cool, such as the quests to go kill other pc's instead of the npc ensign redshirt we have now in all quests. also making the quests matter such as "getting these supplies here" and if you fail something bad really does happen

so while it "borrows" some stuff from WoW it's a lot different and some of the classes and races will definately be nice to see and does seem to be pretty close to the source material.

AoC just seems too generic, last video i saw i could have sworn it was a graphically better version of WoW and for a game that was trying to do "a lot of new things" the only thing i saw different was a topless succubus and the way some of the combat worked other than that it looked and played exactly like a WoW clone.

now i do realize there will be some things that are the same or similar but it was just too much for my likes. one of my friends was saying how revolutionary it was and i pulled a modified version of my standard halo fanboy argument and retorted with "oh WoW has that"

my friend is pulling for AoC because he knows a few ppl playing the beta and they say it's good but free always makes something good. he won't believe me saying there's a not a lot of buzz around it. i know of more ppl waiting for WAR to come out, a lot of WoW players are waiting for it to come out before they quit WoW
