Where in the world do you live that $1500 a month is the cheapest you can find for a 1 BR apartment?!

I used to live in one of the wealthier areas of California, and I found a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment with a fireplace and patio that was 3 blocks from the beach for $1950 a month. And this is in notoriously expensive California.

As someone noted earlier, even those places that are in the top 10 most expensive apartments that's only the median cost, which means a great deal of them will be cheaper than what is listed. Sure they might not be mansions, but them's the breaks if you want to live in the city.

Somehow this article seemed appropriate for this thread. :D

According to the Swiss bank, UBS, London is in the middle of a major housing bubble.
"London house prices are, in real terms, 6% above their 2007 peak. This compares with a national drop in house prices of 18%.

The decoupling of the London market is "even more drastic" considering that real average earnings have fallen by 7% since 2007."

It also listed Hong Kong, New York, Boston and Chicago as other cities they were expecting to have a housing bubble burst soon.

Should be interesting to see what unfolds over the next few years.
