Apocalypse: is it near or just paranoia?

The threat of global destruction is more or less constant. Even if one threat has subsided there's always the chance an asteroid will impact our planet and destroy us all, the sun will inevitably expand and destroy the Earth, new diseases may arise that can wipe us out, the possibilities are many and varied.

It's only paranoia when you spend your whole life worrying about it. And it's silly getting worked up over a day that "the world will end" because any day of year it's possible the world will end.

Oh and I'm sick of saying this, but the mayan calender ending on 2012 is not the end of the world. It's just the dawn of a new age and when our earth and sun align with the centre of our galaxy. That's all.

but what about the whole "polar shift" thing that is said to happen during the alignment?

Let's just say that it's not going to get in MY way of knowing which way is north.

There is no reason to believe in prophecies.
