I just saw the article about 3d studios closing down and had a thought!

Do you guys and gals remember the apogee games!?

I honestly think that the games they created got me into gaming in general.

Blake Stone, WOLF 3D, Hocus Pocus, Raptor, Commander Keen etc,

Do you have similar experiences, or do you think that Apogee made average games that made no real influence?

Discuss :)

I have absolutely no recollection of a dev/publisher called Apogee Games.

I would say my addictive personality got me into games.

How about Biomenace? I played that over about a zillion times when I was like, 6 years old.

Good times.

Commander Keen.. wow.. Been awhile since I've seen that name thrown around
It was one of the best games I remember playing, and the originality of those games were just brilliant compared to the bog standard fps generators today haha.

Yeah, think about Commander Keen today...

The ESRB would ban it cause we can't have a little boy playing with "one-eyed aliens" in a video game.

Having grown up on my father's lap as he played video games from aeons ago, and still playing a few of those games, I certainly remember them.
Does anyone else? Nooooo.

Oh yes, I definitly remember the Apogee Games logo. Good ol' sprite-shooting (the character models, not the fizzy drink) FPSs!

Perhaps you should read the update on this.

It appears that Apogee still exists in some form.

apogee changed its name to ID software! BJ blakowitz (i think thats how its spelt) is commander keen's(billy blaze) grand-father...thats why theres that secret room in an old wolfenstien game of a hanging commander keen...time loop thing...probably from commander keen's un-made last adventure...(maybe?)

Apogee are totally responsible for my gaming habits. The first games I used to play as a kid were Crystal Caves [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Caves] and later Secret Agent [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Agent_(video_game)]. The first episodes were released as shareware, which meant hours of play for no money \o/

And they're still amazing!
