I've been learning recently about the research of Masaru Emoto, whose claims that water is actually effected by words spoken to it, positive and negative, has recerived [http://recentlyawakened.hubpages.com/hub/The-Messages-From-Water] much attention [http://msnvideo.msn.com/?channelindex=4&from=en-us_msnhp#/video/cb317eda-adf7-101b-1d46-550f078891eb]. Its some very strange claims to make, but the man has done a lot of experiments into it. I'm very skeptical, as I'm sure most of us are, and won't be buying his conclusions anytime soon. The main flaw I see is how would water be capable of detecting positive or negative meanings in words? How would it deal with sarcasm, or words that mean something completely different in other languages? Then again, I haven't reas his book, so its entirely possible there's some explanation for all this (maybe water is capable of sensing our emotions? That would require our feelings to be actual molecules, but given how complex quantum mechanics is, I wouldn't be surprised).

And now I ask you, fellow forum goer, what you're thoughts on this whole study are?

Please, please, PLEASE tell me that I'm not the only one who thought of this the instant they read the title:

Yeah, I thought of this before I even read your post or the article.

Hmmm...is this more or less absurd than homeopathy?
Probably more, "water heals" is less crazy than "Water has feelings"

Well, yes, but then, IIRC, homeopathy has this thing about water healing because of it remembering other chemicals, or somesuch.

My father works for the sanitation department in the city where we live, which part of it is obviously caring sanitizing the water for the city. Several years ago the 'Messages from Water' books were distributed among the employees as part of some attempt at keeping up psychological wellness and morale among the employees. He was essentially required to read it for his job, and I read through it because it seemed so absurd that I simply couldn't resist.

We both agreed that the entire thing seems incredibly fishy, probably completely false. The entire thing hinges on accepting that your positive or negative feelings emit certain kinds of energy and vibrations. Dr. Emoto's methods don't lend any actual credibility to his claims, or give any reason to believe he did not manipulate or cherry-pick.

From what I have read, he also essentially just bypassed anyone who would otherwise want to test his claims and went directly to publishing his work to the public. Years after he published his work, controlled tests that were suitably unbiased showed very little to back up his claims.
