Apple Considering "Explicit" Section for App Store

Just days after pulling suggestive iPhone apps from its App Store, Apple may be changing its tune and considering an "Explicit" category for iPhone programs.

Earlier this week, Apple pulled hundreds and hundreds of potentially risqué apps [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98558-Apple-Bans-Suggestive-iPhone-Apps] from its online store in an attempt, as one analyst put it, to preserve its "squeaky clean" public image. But higher-ups at Apple may be reconsidering.

Developers uploading new apps to the App Store yesterday noticed a new category called "Explicit," category was removed shortly afterwards [http://gizmodo.com/5479226/new-explicit-category-in-app-store-could-herald-return-of-sexy-apps].

According to a developer who phoned Apple looking for an explanation, the hardware manufacturer is considering the option, but "it's not going to happen anytime soon."

To be honest, while Apple certainly has a brand image to maintain, I can't see how this would be a bad thing to have. If it were truly walled off from the rest of the App Store to make it more difficult for an unwitting kid to blunder their way in, then what's wrong with allowing your adult customers some measure of choice?

Besides, porn is hugely profitable. That's really a no-brainer.

Not going to buy a iPhone, or anything else apple related anymore (I despise my iPod) so I don't really care, but even though, if the pervs are getting their own category, I want a bass category!

I can imagine the late night adds.

"Touching yourself?" "There's a app for that"

Yes ban the suggestive apps, that will totally fix the problem. Even though you can get much more, lets say "juicy," porn from the web browser, I have yet to see them do anything about that.

An unwitting kid can much more easily "blunder" to a porn site using the thing's browser. Give it a ponder.

"Besides, porn is hugely profitable. That's really a no-brainer." Indeed

Steve Jobs saying no to money? :O Knew he can't resist! :p

We all know this will happen sooner or later. Just ask yourself what better medium is there for 'explicit' content than an iphone XD

Seems like a good idea in terms of business in my opinion. I can only imagine the media backlash however.

You can't use the escapist (the videos anyway) with an apple browser, Apple blocks Flash. Get a proper tablet if you really want one.

How completely "pants" do they have to be that they didn't think of that in the first place?

Don't they remember why Beta failed in the face of the inferior VHS format?
Sony didn't allow porn on Beta.

And that killed it.

It'll definitely be worse than the Mass Effect controversy, that's for certain. I can just imagine the "investigative journalists" now.

Ditto HD-DVD. VCD did so I have no idea why that lost to DVD so easily.

because parents are lazy and don't want to actually raise their children themselves.

They shouldn't call the section "explicit" as that just means "clear, definite and formulated"

I mean it has just somehow become associated with filthy stuff as scenes where people screw have been described as: "explicit sexual scenes" but they could just as easily be called "graphic sexual scenes" but that doesn't mean if an area is designated "Graphic" it in any way indicates mature contents.

Actually, that's all they should call any porn or violent section, just "Mature" "Adults only" or "18+"

... I'm already capable of wanking on the go with my IPhone.

It's called streaming free porn, and it's great.
