....Interesting concept.
Just wondering.

Yeah, I know, but I like my interpretation better.
Agreed. I'm going with max on this one. I work with an apple solutions rep at my job and his view on people in general is pretty much what max said...oh and I like it better too
Woo. We can start a club.
I'll make the shirts.
sweet. I'll make the shoes. Then we can be "gangsta."

"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

This is only going to backfire on Apple and their iProducts are only going to get pirated even worse because of their fucking retarded pro-capitalist-bureaucratic actions.

I enjoy how Apple can remind me that Microsoft is the lesser of the two evils on a daily basis.

What I hate how Apple always slaps their products in your face and mostly forces you to use them in some way. Though I'm really surprised about this. A company getting annoyed over something that causes them not to make huge profits. This is as mad as Sparta.

I get them trying to protect their revenue, but where the fuck do they get off? If I want to damage my Iphone, then I should be legally allowed to do it. Harming the Iphone should not be on the list as their reason.

"So, Mr Apple, you are thinking of using the DMCA? Really, well, I'd like to show you the thousands of users that will be using the Anti-Monopolies Commission against you, along with the calls from the DPA."

Have fun.

This is pretty much the first phrase that came to mind when I saw the acronym.

I think we have Quicktime, but I never use it by choice. I'm a Windows Media Player man, myself (although I hate how the latest update made me turn the Classic menus back ON, what kind of idiot doesn't want the "Open File" option?).

Well, if Apple can declare modding your property illegal, I'm declaring all DRM illegal. Has about as much actual weight in law, and makes more sense. :)
Heh, you're right.

I don't hate Apple and I don't 'jailbreak', but this decision is a bit stupid. Don't expect them to win any time soon, because of the US law stated in the OP.

wait a minute - it's illegal because they aren't making the money being spent on apps not in their official list! That's like British Airways saying Virgin Atlantic are illegal becase of the money they aren't making while someone flies with their rival!

Aren't there monopoly laws about stuff like that! The phone is so ficken expensive as it is , and people wouldn't be getting apps from else where if Apple offered what they wanted. Rather than outlawing the competition why don't Apple just step up to the challenge and produce better apps!!!

I think Apple is more concerned about the quality of the apps rather than if you got them using Jailbreak or not. It is illegal because people are making apps that suck and they are on the iPhone. That is like people pretending to be me but they are all ugly. If people believed they were really me, it would ruin my reputation and chances of getting hot women before I even opened my mouth. It is no surprise to me that most of these people who make apps are either untalented or criminals.

Most of the apps for jailbroken iPhone/iTouches are actually of much higher quality then the ones gracing the current app store (almost 100 fart apps now!), the only reason Apple doesn't allow them is because they duplicate functionality (albeit better) and/or enable features that may impact on Apples bottom line (e.g. tethering, video/camera enhancements)

Lol, i like how, like every other post calls Apple sad. :p
While i dont agree with all of their...erm, practices, i do like the overall outcome of most of their products. So now that i can get an 8Gig 3G iPhone for 200 bucks and im already on a contract with AT&T/Cingular, i think ima buy an iPhone for music and a replacement of my piece of crap phone anyhow. You win this time, Apple.

Edit: Apple is so sad. :p

Huh. i was actually considering an i-phone before i saw this. i'm not sure what the legal precedent is, but what rights do apple really have to stop you from doing this? i mean, if i buy a toothbrush and stick it up my ass, does that give the toothbrush manufacturer the right to call me a criminal for using it for something other than its intended purpose?

apple is really no different than the other cell companies and manufacturers. they are the greediest of the greedy. there is a site out there called myxer, which allows you to basically upload your own ringtones to your phone, they are sent as picture messages. verizon recently blocked this process. so, i called up the motherfuckers and asked them what right did they have to do this, and some lady, i'm assuming from the marketing department, gave me some shtick about i was doing something illegal and if i read over my contract, they had complete legal right to do this, basically skirting around the issue proper. i wish i wasn't so pissed when i called, i would have recorded the conversation and wrote down her name and info.

Yah yah yah.......

Its a way to make more money we all know that. I think that they should issue a warning to people that do that about messing up there property but nothing past that.

Anyway, yeah, Quicktime is pretty useless.
And clingy. I accidently installed it once when I forgot to uncheck the 'I want to install all these useless resource hogging programs you piggybacked onto this installer as part of some deal' checkbox. It took me a while to get that stupid Q out of my Control Panel.
