They need to be more original with their naming. i{something] is kind of lame.

But hey, it looks okay really.
the "i" branding is synonymous with Apple though now, a bit like PSX is known through the land as Sony's baby.

I call mine an ehPhone though, just because I'm childish.

Oh dear Jobs. You know what you should have done?
Made it smaller, added a camera and maybe the ability to make calls and texts..... Oh.
Yeah, I get the distinct feeling this is just Jobs seeing how much shit he can get away with selling... I can see him now in the meeting:

"If this shit sells, we can release the "iPad mini"... Smaller, more compact... In practice we'll just pick up an iPod and change the cover design, the repackage and resell it for like 300 - 400 bucks. And you just wait till the iPad nano!".

That thing needs one and only one feature to hav eme running down the street fumbling for my bank card...
... the ability to be connected to a Mac (or PC if we're being greedy) and then used as a direct to screen graphics pad.

If they or someone else introduces that feature, then they've undercut the nearest competitor by a full £1000 assuming you buy the most expensive iPad, even more for the cheaper models. Although I assume they're using the same screen tech as the iPod touch, which would be a bit of a hurdle as it's crap with a stylus, I'm sure Wacom or others could come up with a peripheral specially for it.

Maybe not the best general use tool Apple's come up with, but as a serious tool for serious business I reckon they're onto a winner here. Now to watch the IFX forums for the first iPad graphics applications...

In computing today, rather then do the coursework, we discussed said iPad and came to the following conclusions.

1) It fufils a market only existing in warehouse distribution (inventory check etc)
2) It must be the cheapest R&D project ever (Open iPhone schematics; Resize->300%;Save As;)
3) It will cost a lot

To put it this way, i guesstimate you can beat the iPad on price and functionality with an EEE pc, its touchscreen conversion kit and a good linux distro.

I was originaly against the Itouch simply due to how it used to be realy delicate, now im plannig on getting one soon. Otoh this looks like it should be able to fold like a4 paper, and you have to PAY for the internet? i don't think so.... nice try apple... nice try.

The picture sums up just about anything I need/want to say in regards to this. People will buy anything so long as it's "trendy."

Meh, seems like just another great bit of tech that no one will buy. And regular e-readers are horrible anyway, you just can't beat an honest to god BOOK.

The iPad is going to be straight up underpowered, overpriced, oversized iPhone resell. I will be shocked if it makes much money at all because people will just go buy an itouch for 1/3 the price and do the exact same things. Or an iPhone for 1/2 the price that makes calls too! (or grow a brain and get a Pre+ or a Droid for 1/2 the price of an iPhone and has more cpu power than an iPad and good cell service)

I think you only have to pay if you use 3G.
