Okay so I was thinking and after talking to a few other users we thought that this could be fun.

It is essentially March Mayhem except substituting Game Developers with Music Musicians.
I'm going to allow the public to pick the bands to participate in this then I will make a bracket.

So start suggesting bands to be in the bracket. Once we have enough bands and the bracket is made voting will begin.

Please No Flaming

Note: You can nominate as many bands as you want per post, and can have multiple posts, but not back to back and not all nominations will make it. This is a 64 band bracket.

I am going to suggest Harry Chapin. Easily one of the greatest songwriters and singers of our generation, and arguably one of the best of several past generations as well.

I'll have to post the obvious and say The Beatles. Their influence on popular music is hard to deny.

Since the Beatles have already been nominated, I'll nominate B.B. King, arguably the most influential guitarist of the last fifty years.

I nominate Rush, IMO the most musically technical band ever. And Metallica, the most influential metal band ever.

Yeah.. Ronan Harris. VNV Nation has some of the most powerful music and lyrics. Infected Mushroom as well, for making the best Psytrance ever made.

I'll have to go with Dick Dale for revolutionizing guitar playing... sort of.
Led Zeppelin too, because you know... it's Led Zeppelin.
And since you gave me three nominations, Streetlight Manifesto.

Also you guys might want to come up with some sweet new alliteration instead of using mayhem again.

No list is complete without Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Or Miles Davis. I'll also throw out the Aussie band Faker, and the phoenix that rose out of the ashes of Joy Divison[/b], New Order. And Joy Division too. Oh, and Beck. Beck is just awesome. To throw two more bands from the wonderful world of Post Rock, there is Mogwai and God Is An Astronaut. Oh, and If These Trees Could Talk. General Awesomeness submits Giraffes? Giraffes! and Enablers. Classics gets The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and Gram Parsons. All Time Best Musician Fucking Ever is Nick Drake. I'll give in Rob Crow, and Heavy Vegetable, Pinback, Thingy, Other Men. Silversun Pickups as well.

To sum up

  • Godspeed You! Black Emporer
    Miles Davis
    Faker
    Joy Division
    New Order
    Beck
    Mogwai
    Joy Division
    Lydia Lunch
    God Is An Astronaut
    If These Trees Could Talk
    David Bowie
    Giraffes? Giraffes!
    Enablers
    Nick Drake
    Rob Crow
    Heavy Vegetable
    Pinback
    Thingy
    Vangelis
    The Psychedelic Furs
    Miranda Sex Garden
    The Kinks
    The Rolling Stones
    Gram Parsons
    Kenny Loggins
    Alfie
    The Clientele
    Damien Rice
    Arcade Fire
    Mirah
    Apostle Of Hustle
    Air
    Royksopp
    Sigur Ros

Gigantic-ass list of bands/musicians
Whoa, Dirk. Settle down. Can you pick 3 of those for starters? It's probably only going to be able to be a 65 contestant field.

EDIT: Eh, I guess don't worry about it. Also, I've returned to nominate Queen and the Kaiser Chiefs.

I decided screw it, you can nominate an unlimited amount per post.
Only 64 bands will make it into the bracket though.
