I just had a positive revelation in the form of an electronic angel. Or something.

I've been an Archon-Fan since I had my C64. To this day, a friend of mine still runs a small Archon-tournament on the old bread-machine that requires some resurrection every now and then, but apparently, that's over now. I've just been browsing the iTunes Store (really, I'm only looking), and stumbled across a recent remake of Archon. Seeing the userreviews (who all seem to be as ecstatic as I am) made me investigate this a bit further. And bloody hell if this doesn't look like the real stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QivDl-MIDBo

Since the controls do look kinda like you'd need to get used to, I'm absolutely delighted when I heard there was going to be a PC version.

Tell me. Am I a geek that the two games I was looking for this year (Streetfighter IV and Archon Classic) are updated versions from another age?

And who's in for a hardcore tournament once the Mac or PC Version comes? :D

Karacan, absolutely ecstatic and incredibly excited. And old. Oh, so very old.

I have absolutley no idea what's going on there but it certainly looks intriguing.

´Mhh..I admit I never knew about Archon before (I knew the Escapist's CEO, Alex, had the alias Archon... But yeah...)....But it seems like an incredibly fun concept, which, sadly, is unexplored.

From what I gather, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's a chess match, but unlike a real chess match, a "fight" between two pieces is decided... By actually fighting. Seems like quite a potential, which really should be explored into 3D.

Archon was originally designed and released by FreeFall Games in 1983. It's a huge classic, at least among those old coots of us who lived (and gamed) in that time. :)

Archon basically is a strategy-action-hybrid - all your tokens have different strengths and attacks and move ranges (and while some fly, others have to walk around obstacles and enemies), including spells that can be cast once per match each by your sorceress (for the Dark side) or the wizard (for the Light side). The type of terrain the battle takes place on always favours one or the other side. The goal is to either control all five glowing powerpoints on the map, or wipe out the enemy's army. Both are valid strategies.

Anyway, it's been an awesome game, though I guess the reason why I'm posting here is that I'd like to find out if it's just my nostalgia making me so excited, or if any new audience is still able to enjoy it. :)

On their website, they say that the PC version will be semi-3d, which is really all I want. Then again, I just want my old C64 game with updated graphics and sounds.

I had Archon back on the Atari 800. It was a neat game and I'm surprised it hasn't been remade for this generation.
