Not true. Coconut crabs are more closely related to hermit crabs. Sure they and arachnids are in the same phylum but completely different subphylums.

OT: Australian spiders aren't all that big. There's a few really, really venomous ones however. If you ever go to Queensland be sure to watch out for these bad boys:
