are 'bad' games doing something right?

I have noticed with less popular games or 'bad' games have a few mechanics or gameplay features that are rather brilliant or at least would be if they were refined. Yet the bestselling games do not incorporate those great features.

for example, Haze apparently wasn't all that it was cracked up to be, yet there is a feature in lan multiplayer that allows you to create bots to play along with or against. I found this feature pretty awesome for those days where its just you with a mate and playing 1 on 1 gets boring and so fighting some AI in this way is quite entertaining. Yet games like Call of Duty do not have features like this, you cant create bots on lan (yes cod does have a few co-op adds to their games, but I'm talking about multi vs).

so do you believe that some of the 'bad' games have good features?

if so what game? and what features do you reckon the big guns should take up?

p.s. i no the bot thing is not exclusive to Haze, I'm just using it as an example

With alot of mediocre JRPG's they still manage to have amazing soundtracks compared to alot of the more popular games out here.

Obviously you do not own a gaming computer, because that is pretty common.

And no, they don't. Bad games are bad for a reason. If they didn't do something horrible with no redeeming factors, they wouldn't be "bad."
I no that it is used a lot now a days rather than just Haze, im just using it as an example, maybe a poor example but still an ex.

Unpopular is not the same thing as bad. And bad is an opinion.
I've played many unpopular games that I found to be fun, which, is one of my big qualifiers for a good game.
Given what you mean, however, no, I have not. Because if I found a game bad, I probably wouldn't like any part of it.

by bad i meant unpopular, for it to be unpopular there must of been something to it that the majority did not like, therefore 'bad'. But your right, an unpop game can still be good

Some bad games have hit upon good ideas. For example, Limbo of the Lost stole all of its content from better games. Theoretically: Best game ever. In practice: Poorly executed attempt at theft.

Here's a full review of it for those who've never heard of this catastrophic game: http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/pc/limbo-lost

I disagree. Some video games can potentially have a single strong point that doesn't quite make up for them (but are excellent none-the-less)...having trouble remembering any at the moment.

wow, Haze has bots? FUCK! That's awesome!

I thought that was dead and reserved for the coming Timesplitters 4 to roar back.

Most of these more popular games cater to the lowest common denominator and/or are selling by the quality of their prequals. Changing up the simplest gameplay and adding a wrinkle or two can explode in one's face.
