People argue that exclusives sell consoles but I argue that those people should stop being selfish cunts are share the love. 1st party games will always be exclusive but there is no point in having 3rd party exclusives.

And two words to shut the PS3 fanboys up about Leipzig:

Final Fantasy.
Look we got that too, ohhhh zing........wait you fail. All that shows is that the 360 has a black hole in its own line up that third party multiplatform games are touted as if they actually do anything for the console. Anyone who has a 360 and spends about five seconds thinking about the emerging pattern with respect to these third party titles should be extremely concerned about this. Going "Neeeneerneeer" when you are the one lacking in exclusives isn't the wisest course of action; because at the end of the day exclusives differentiate consoles from one another.

Saying you hate exclusives is like saying that the human race should be exactly the same. It's not a winning strategy for anyone involved. The human race would die out if everyone was genetically identical or even too genetically simillar to one another. Consoles have a simillar problem in that the overall quality of games would (and is currently really) suffer in the long run. Exclusives promote a diverse gaming landscape which leads to a better experience for everyone involved.

Realistically, exclusivity will also make some games work better. I mean, look at MGS IV.
Or, because people hate me when I mention a Ps3 game, look at Metroid: Corruption. It would probably suck it it was on the 360, due to the large number of uses of the Wiimote in it.
True, but why mention the 360 specifically, it would have sucked if it was on the PS3 as well. The motion sensing on those controllers isn't all that great after all.
Well, SIXAXIS might have actually worked for the whole pull and unlock thing, if done properly. It had a chance to not be screwed up. But since the 360 has nothing, it would either be edited out, or have to work on controls.

And There are some games where SIXAXIS works well. Look at Heavenly Sword or R & C Future.
Also godfather: the dons edition had good controls.(Give or take the gyroscope can't tell if your putting your controller back in front of you after swinging.)

I'm sure it exists already.

The horror stories I hear from survivors of Two Girls 1 cup links can attest to that.
Or the nun from house of fudge.

Moving on can we move away from horror stories? Also i'm so tinyurling HoFing and HoFing my friends cause i'm evil...

Moving on, Exclusives sell consoles, Multi-Platform sell consoles but not as effectively as exclusives.

Now exclusives also pay for the console for it being under priced. For them underpricing the consoles they need exclusives to repay whats lost when a consoles sold.

I wouldn't be surprised if a woman (Certain women) could get a controller into their vagina. I've, unfortunately, seen videos of much larger things being put in there.

I dislike exclusives from third party publishers. I believe that since they have no loyalties they can at least publish products on more than one console.

well I prefer exclusives from the technical standpoint where I think it is better for developers to focus on making a game for that unique system just like N64 games had a distinct style that suited them, the PSone had it's own as well. I mean, the PS3 and 360 have significantly different architecture that they should be making many different games but there are so many multi-platforms (usually ported from 360 to PS3 as the other way round is almost impossible) usually to maximise their market. I won't object to a port 6 months down the line once it's clear the game is a hit but co-releases is just uninspired, at least Force Unleashed tries to make each version slightly unique.

Then again you wish some games were not exclusives like Zelda, I don't know what I'm going to do when the next Zelda game comes out as that means I'll have to get a Wii. Banjo & Kazooy went to 360, why can't Zelda be set free from the clutches of Wii Fit and Wii Sport owners.

I don't like exclusives all the time (depending on the game atleast) but I don't care what other people say, exclusives are important.

People bought the PS3 for MGS4
People bought the 360 for Halo 3
People bought the Wii for the next Mario/Zelda/Metroid title

Like it or not, exclusives drive the industry, in either a creative way or in the sales way.
Balls. I bought the 360 years ago and I'm still yet to play Halo 3. People will generally buy the console that has the most games specifically catered to their own tastes, be they exclusives or not. Some exclusives do help to shift consoles, it's true, but it's not the defining factor that makes people buy one console over another. Other factors like price, general functions (Blu-Ray player, web browser support, online gaming support etc etc), are as important, if not more important than console exclusives when making the decision to buy a console.

As much as I want to play MGS 4, there ain't no way I'm gonna splash out on a PS3 just to play that one game. Plus, whoever brought up Final Fantasy XIII ought to be shot. I don't know about anyone else but I've had quite enough of the fanboy wars over that one.
Of course, I'm not saying that Exclusives are the defining features of Consoles, but if you don't want exclusives go get a better PC and stop whining. Exclusives may not be the defining factor of purchases, but they damn well are a huge part of it (depending on the person atleast)

As shadow skill said, saying that you don't want exclusives is like saying that the human race should be identical. It's impossible as the industry would colapse on itself. It's your fault you didn't buy the hardware, so stop asking Kojima about MGS4 on 360-I mean, stop complaining about wanting another developer's game on your console.

I remember this Vide Viewer question on G4 (yes yes, get the hate out of your system) and it asked "should HD DVD buyers get refunds for Blu-Ray drives?". One person said "Absolutely" an two other people said "It's their fault for not picking out the winner". The first one was just a complete cheapass who didn't want to shell out extra dough for something that he thought was going to lose, and that's reasonable to an extent no body wants to pay for expensive things, but if you didn't pick the winner tough luck.

Go do your business else where, if you don't have the money to pay for a Wii for it's games, a 360 for it's games, or a PS3 for it's games, then guess what? They don't give a shit, so move along and play your other games until you can fork up the bread.

I prefer a console to have a distinctive variety of exclusives for several reasons. My general experience is that games designed with multi platform releases in mind tend to be less technically excellent than games that are built from the ground up for one hardware set, although there are obvious exceptions.

Primarily, though, I like the distinction it gives to each console. With all these multiplatform titles, I worry that we're moving toward a one console future akin to the DVD player market, where theres no reason for an manufacturer to push the envelope because it has to run on the lowest common denominator machines or they risk fragmenting the user base PC style. And the competition is great for the consumer.

Exclusive only drive the market over brief periods for example when halo3 came out sales boosted then dropped back to normal for console same with the ps3 and mgs4. However Consoles have to depend on its other types of exclusive content and good PR.

Put simply:

11years agio I bought an N64 for Lylat Warsm Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye

5 years ago I bought an Xbox for Halo and KoToR.

Of the current generation I have bought none, So far I am not impressed.
As far as I can tell exclusives seem to appeal to younger gamers more, partly because they're less cynical. I also think it has something to do with who's money is getting spent.

You buy a console at the time for the games you want to play.
When the other console is more affordable you get that one so you can play the games you missed and at a reduced price.
If you want everything all at once you're going to feel like you're missing out. If you're prepared to be patient...

I think everything should be released multi platform and multi region. It's all about marketing and not about the games themselves.

It would make console developers work harder to make theirs the best.

Multi region would be good. Iknow the PS3 is multi, but Ithink the Eurpean Market is a ***** to translate for.

I bought my Playstation 3 for God of War 3. Fans of a series will spend hundreds of pounds to see the conlusion of that, simply because they have emotionally invested in the outcome, so yeah, exclusives are important to a point.

But there really aren't that many exclusives right now anyway. So hell, it don't matter anyhow.

A console having exclusives doesn't "make or break" a console in my eyes.
It's having GOOD exclusives that make the difference.
