It is not that humongous mechs are not practical, just robot technology still alot of perfecting to do. Some of the tech we think is Science fiction is now since fact.

Here is some real life Robots

Somewhat, kind of. The anime ones you're talking about would fail completely.

Now, some of the other Mech games, like, the Mech Warrior series, are a little more practical.

I would personally have a few huge mechs in my army's arsenal, though.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, as Wolverine aptly demonstrated but then again that's just because the designers stupidly forgot to make it adamantium-proof.

I see no reason why they can't work. If that thing can stay stable when people are kicking it, it's walking on ice etc I see no reason why a 2 legged system could work, in time it could probably learn to account for having its legs shot out etc. It could happen one day, though I've never really understood why you'd have a manned mech.

Do i think that somewhere in the future there will be some kind of military thingy close enought to be called a mecha? Maby not colossal überhumans, but yes.

No, not really. Maybe, Mayyyyyyyybe, for industrial uses, but that would most likely have more to do with someone wanting to have a warehouse staffed by Mecha than practicality.

Armored core did good by showing impractical mechs in a realistic way. I mean, if we could get mechs too move like that, then id join the army just too pilot one.

For the most part, I don't think they are practical at all, why don't you just give them AI and have them fight for us? But then, they would turn on us and.......all that crap. Really it's good for watching, and not actually using.

I will admit the Code Geass version on rollerblades were the most interesting n.n. but that's my only major opinion, and that's after watching parts of Gundam, Robotech, and other mech-based stories

If we could build something like the Geckos from MGS4, then they might work. They're agile enough to work in crowded urban spaces that no tank could reach, while delivering enough firepower to get the job done. They're also light enough to go onto the second floor of a building without it collapsing, but, unfortunately, this means you have to cut down on armour, for their legs.

I want evangelion mecha...which aren't really mecha :p

Huge mechs aren't practical with our present level of technology or scientific knowledge but who knows what kind of discoveries could make it possible for huge mechs to be feasible.

Everyone saying Huge Mechs in cities....that's what infantrymen are employed for. Infantrymen that can be concealed, move virtually anywhere, spring ambushes, set traps and are generally the kings of the urban battlefield. Put simply, mecha are redundant.

...and get killed by small arms fire from any butcher, baker or candlestick maker. Because they all have AKs. The amount of concealment (in the sense of no one knowing that you're around) you can offer to a squad of uniformed soldiers operating in a dense urban environment is somewhat limited, even assuming they aren't with armored fighting vehicles or hummers. We're to the point where any deaths are borderline unacceptable. We don't send troops to certain areas on patrol because we don't want them to get slaughtered. True, you can't replace infantry with a mech, at least not any more than you can with an MBT or attack helo.

Isn't the sole advantage that mechs would have (possibly being able to traverse rougher terrain) negated by the fact that we have big, powerful attack helicopters now?
